Ellis has some value but I really don't know if he is ever going to make an impact. I mean, if the guy is already a HUGE liability in the defensive zone in JR. How is he EVER going to be effective at the NHL level? The guy is a fucking midget too.

Labarbara is le garbage.

Handzus is OK and that 1st should be a good pick but in a weak draft...

Weiss is a very good young player who is still getting better...

Hard to tell who is the winner in this trade. A lot was given up but the only pieces that are going to show any value immediately are Handzus and weiss.

Was the top 3 pick in 2011 really necessary?

Shiv, you got the best player in the deal...I don't think you should be too disappointed with that. If that 1st rounder in the lottery, that might tilt the scales a bit against you. Considering how deep the East is, it's going to tough for the Isles to make the playoffs...so I'm thinking that's a top 15 pick at the worst. Ellis is talented but undersized. Labarbera is the backup of one of the workhorse goalies so he hardly will ever play barring injury...that's why I never wanted him when you offered him to me.

The current production isn't that far off when you consider Handzus is a solid all-around center while Weiss is very good on draws but leans more on offense. Throw in the factors of Weiss' age and he's got a very reasonable contract for 3 more years. I think all the pieces with Handzus fairly even out the deal. Stats for stats, you're not gaining a lot but you're getting a better contract and more potential. I don't think either team should complain about this one.

From the Whalers' perspective...why trade Weiss? Solid future grabs though and Handzus very steady but who knows what his future holds after this year.

Tough to gauge what that pick is worth really.

Shiv got a really good young player who is still improving. He gave up a lot ... but not THAT much if you actually look at the value IMO.

Just so everybody knows, I own Bryzgalov so getting Labarbera means more to me than anybody else in the league. Completing that tandem ensures I do not have to do any goalie shuffling next season.

I was told I lost the deal when I gave up 29th overall + Ryan O'Reilly for Weiss. I was told "O'Reilly should have been enough."

Now I get back, which I consider to be a lot more than that, in Handzus, Ellis, Labarbera, NYI 1st in 2011 (for arguments sake, a top 10 pick). And I still lose the trade?

Again, for arguments sake, let's say the picks cancel eachother out. You guys are telling me O'Reilly > Handzus + Ellis + Labarbera?

Really?...

So confused lol.

Oh well, I consider it a huge win compared to what I gave up and I am MORE than happy with my return.
