frankly i'd only agree to a re-start if there was a (whatever #) player keep rule. i've worked too hard to just start from scratch.
Toews, Kane, Keith, Sharp, Seabrook, Brouwer, Beach etc. is far from scratch, but I hear you.
with "keep 3" im not getting toews, kane, or keith back
He means with a restart you'd have all those guys to use to trade.
But that's what we aren't thinking. You aren't simply not getting your top 3. Toews, Kane, Keith, Sharp, Hossa could all be kept by various teams and now you keep 3 and are down 2.

keeping 3 wouldn't work unless we were to do a fantasy draft.
lol this thread is going to be interesting to read tomorrow when i wake up.

I thought about this a month ago actually. I'm a relatively competitive team in this league and I can't imagine what some of the lower teams are going to be thinking, it has to be 5-7 years before they have even a legitimate shot and even that I'm not certain.
I'd be down to do a complete restart, either way through keep 1-3 or just fuck it and do a full fantasy draft. Because right now this league is ridiculous theres maybe 5 guys who can win it, maybe 6-7 next year and maybe 8-9 guys who will be competitive in the next 4 years.
I'd very much support this idea.

anton wroteCOLONhonestly i think the league now is more stable and the GMs are more active then i've ever seen in both my stints here.
i would oppose a complete re-start mainly based on the fact that i have worked my ass off to acquire the players i have and am quite happy where i stand, despite being a bottom 10 team.
if we could somehow, some way, do a complete re-start, while being able to maintain something like 3 players from our current roster i'd be more receptive.
for example: i go back to the Chicago Blackhawks but maintain kopitar, oshie, and shattenkirk - from there i choose a set number and the waiver draft begins.
BUT what i fear is that a re-start would set off a complete shit storm and GMs would leave, lose interest, etc etc.
this literally could only be done if every single GM agrees. also, does this not make a fucking shit load of work for admins like mike and scott on cbs/the forums/etc.
I wouldn't be down for a complete restart. All my favorite players on my fantasy squad don't even play for the damn rags and for me to acquire them, it would cost more now then it did when I first got them. I put in a lot of work to get them too....sooooooo yah, it would be AWFULLY frustrating to have to restart my entire fucking team from scratch and have to go reacquire all the players I like on my team.
Also, if we restart and everyones roster goes back to normal, we are still going to have teams at a huge advantage because of the pieces that they have that they can use to acquire players they actually want. Look at a team like Washington. He would have mike green, all the goalies (Haley, Neuvirth and Varlamov), ovechkin, semin, backstrom, alzner, carlson....if we restate how bout I get washingtons roster and you can have the ranger one Kareem? Look at a team like Toronto, mikes done a great job with that team and with a restart he would get stuck with a shitttttt roster. The sharks would prolly have a better roster with a restart too.
my rangers has dubinsky, Lundy and what, Staal and girardi? (and a few other decent periphary guys).
Fuck that.
PS. FWIW I knew I hadd no chance at winning the championship this year but I still had a hell of a lot of fun.

Shocker here... but I'm opposed to the idea.
1) I don't think it's that long to turn a team around. Bottom teams are that way through poor decisions, lack of decisions, and lack of moves. More then enough movement to turn your team around, and right now is a great time to do it.
2) We have multiple ORIGINAL GM's here saying they are far away from competing... "hole you dug" anyone?
3) Starting clean is NOT starting with parity, it might be more fair, but it is not evenly distributed.
4) The keep 3-idea does not work, don't really feel like fully explain why, but it doesn't work (Take TBL for example: Various GMs keeps Stamkos, MSL and Vinny...)
5) I've collected a group of my favourite players in the league.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What we need is for GM's to get their heads out of their asses. If you want a good team, make smart trades that are calculated and moving towards something... not "youth"... fucking clue in some of you,THIS IS NOT A REAL-LIFE rebuild there is NO ADVANTAGE TO BEING YOUNG, only up side is the chance for a cap-value contract, however there are vets like that in the league. 28, 30, 33, not old, definitely not too old to warrant attention in a league with this type of movement. Keep track of what your paid for in and out. If you watch hockey, look for someone who is playing better then their #'s, or alternative, watch for players who are producing off of the backs of others... both of those things will change. Lose the idea of 1st/2nd lines and pairings... that doesn't exists. You don't have a good first line. you either have a team strong in a category, or your have an area of weakness.
and the biggest point of all -> If you ever make a deal because "your not ready to contend" and find yourself giving up proven assets... STOP, just straight up. STOP. Make a deal that way if your getting overpaid, if you need to cut cap, if you see a player on the decline, or alternatively a player breaking out
fine print: I know my team is young traded for players who IMO had rising value & cheap cap...
there is some insane trends here on interest spikes and when a player is deemed useless and lots of it reeks of not watching hockey, watch more hockey, and you'll instantly make more good trades.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm likely not in for a restart... for those of you saying its 5-7 years away, sure...maybe at the rate you trade. Bryan took a shit COL and made them a contender within a year. Shiv basically tore down and rebuilt his team 5 times. Mike is the only member in the league to do a draft pick based rebuild per h2h keeper league standards (buying picks low, trading them at increased price for assests on a low, as those assets rise swapping for similar pieces he likes... one bad trade different and he's more of a contender). Several teams got bad injury timing, some teams got bad luck, and some teams sold good pieces right before the playoffs.
Say Scott wins again? Great, clearly deserved it. Great h2h GMing, and he'd do it again if we kept this same group. He makes lots of good moves.
Kyle wins it.. awesome, Shooker weak shit but w/e,....
/rant
I lost first round. Didn't make the playoff last year. But have had a wicked time both year, and both years I've tried to manage a team the way I would an NHL club, and tried to win.
I'm game for a considering system which causes all playoff teams, or all conference final teams, to release one of their top 3 salaries, or something which handicaps top top end teams.. either awarded directly to the matching bottom teams or released to waiver draft (bad idea, as lower end GM's sell things at VERY bad times...)

I don't like the idea of a total re-start
HOWEVER - i think we could help out a few of the lower teams....
sort of like the NHL does to an expansion team.....each team can only protect "x" number of players, and the bottom 5 teams can pick a player off the unprotected list.
Other than a few weak teams, this league isn't nearly as divided as last year....

Lol this is interesting. Can't see it ever happening. I agree with alot of points made though. I also think some people are overly obsessed with the thought that you are unsuccessful unless you win. Take Kezia for example. He took over an absolute nothing of a team and has slowly been improving it. He is having fun. It is a challenge. There definitely is an unbalance in the league in terms of player value and picks. I guess when i think of a Keeper league I assume most people are dedicated to this for a long time. I think it would kind of be a slap in the face of Mike and or Scott to go ahead with such a thing, even yourself Kareem. To take a something that was built up after 2 years and throw it away because of say 4 or 5 bad managers or because 2 or 3 people have built ridiculous teams. If the lower seeded teams didnt want a challenge or was not having fun, would they still be here?
IMO, this is just crazy talk. But again if this was to go down, the Bruins are stacked and so are the cupboards. Id take Spooner, knight, Caron, Kampfer, Lucic, Marchand, Kaberle, Rask...lol bring it. Oh and the Leafs pick.

I don't even have 3 players that I'd want to keep. I don't even have one.
I'd be down for a full reset, I'm just not sure I'd be in any better of a position.

It won't be the full phi roster.I won't have Richards carter pronger briere etc and I don't have anything close to a comparable player.

Im opposed to a full reset, coming from a bottom team, with all the work I did this season AS a bottom team I truly believe if we reset and I get the PHX roster it will only hurt me. Carter/Kessel/Neal/Lupul/Booth/McCabe, I acquired all those pieces THIS season with pretty much nothing but a decent 1st overall pick in LAST years draft which I traded away.
Am I ready to win now? No. But in one or two more season I will be. I went from being Dead worst in the league to a middle of the pack team in only one season...It can be done.
HOWEVER, if enough people agree, I am all for whatever helps the league grow, at whatever the expense is of MY personal roster. I really love this league and think it is a great thing so I will pretty much do whatever is needed to help it go in the right direction.

This is more of the reaction I was expecting.
For me, it has literally nothing to do with Scott winning. I don't care if he wins 10 years in a row (other than I want to win). It was more to help out the lower end teams.
The whole "favourite players" thing was IMO the reason I knew this would never have a chance.

The rosters in the NHL are not balanced, you are still going to have teams that have stacked rosters with stacked prospect pools that have the potential to go and acquire whoever they want for their teams. Meanwhile you will have teams like toronto, ottawa, phoenix, florida who lack both.
I think the favourite players argument is a legit argument too. What a kick to the nuts it would be to have to go and acquire them again when the person who now owns them knows how highly you value them.

Oh I know, I never said it wasn't. And I knew 100% it would be the problem.
I have my two favourite players in the NHL on my team, I'd still consider it. But I agree that there are still lots of teams that would be in bad shape with a reset.

Id be down with a complete restart and I am one of those surprise teams who have worked just as hard but I have always said I wish I could have started with my team originally. With keeping 3 players that could screw some people because maybe some teams have like 3 really good players and the person doesn't get those players back, so maybe we keep like one player. But at the same time you say it may make some people lose interest if there is a restart, teams like Philly, Carolina, Detroit and so on may lose interest just because there is not much for them to work with from previous owners and it may take years to build back up if they got the chance to mold there team themselves then they could be happy with that. I can honestly say when I came into the league I was Vancouver and I maybe had 4-5 Canucks left.
