To add to the above, if you combine the Pavelski's stats from his 15 playoff games last season, and his 67 regular season games, the totals aren't even close between the two players.

Pavelski isn't on the same planet as Jonathon Toews, if proven ability was really a concern, he shouldn't have dealt Toews in the first place.sgupca wroteCOLONits not like Pavs is old or anything
Kid is 25 and just coming into his prime.....Johansen hasn't proven a thing

Kind of ... that and I was in a good mood. I found out my unborn child is a girl - going to be one spoiled child!Raptactics wroteCOLONPersonally, I'd rather Pavelski here. I just find it a little bit of a weird trade. Tony traded Fleischmann and a few other contributing NHLers for prospects and then trades prospects for Pavelski. This is a lot of GMs troubles in this league, you either want to compete and build your roster or you don't.. you've gotta be committed to doing one or the other.
But I guess it's the Sharks love?
Oh, and I'm not finished for the season or anything. I'm still looking to move a couple pieces for possible prospects ...

?
a re-build while trying to compete.
Re: LAK - NYI
I'm just building . Lots of trades that are little wins to build up value in my team . Trading my first was thhe right thing to do because I can use those resources to better my team.
Re: LAK - NYI
I love Johansen and like Hickey but I had a chance to get a great proven player who is only 26. If I had to add Poniarovsky, so be it ... I got the player I've been trying to get since I've been in the league.
Re: LAK - NYI
Teams that have no shot whatsoever due to whatever reasons like Philadelphia - which have no production in general, will have to resort to rebuilding. Certain teams like LA or mid-tier teams have a shot at keeping some of their great assets they have to rebuild and fill in the gap while trying to make a competing team if they possess roster players that have broken out or are capable of carrying the team. Some teams may not possess their own 1st round picks, and can't really go all-rebuild route, like me... and it's not going to be completely satisfying giving up all of my roster players for all prospects/picks (exaggerated) but you get the point.
I think what I'm trying to do this year is to make a decently formulated team that will keep me in contention in the mid-tier level, and stay off the bottom of the standings, because all I have is a 2nd rounder of my own and I made rather a large deal for Carter this year. As opposed to what Scott had said, I would have to disagree, and there CAN be middle ground teams... BUT, it isn't actually easy to go this route because you have to take more things into consideration when you're making deals, to make sure you're not overly swayed towards either rebuilding or contending direction to lose its balance. BTW, it's not like the NYI or TOR in the real NHL even keeps their draft picks (especially TOR) for their "future" or deal them in a special way rofl.
