Phion really set Matt up with maybe one of the best prospect pools this league has ever seen. Matt took that and turned it into a juggernaut though so credit to him! 5 peat is absurd so congratulations if the title does go to Buffalo again. Phion's last draft was 2013 where he had 6 first rounders. 3 good picks...Zadorov, Horvat and Pulock...but 3 that didn't really pan out...Fuchale, Zykov and Shinkaruk. Overall it was a useful draft but with the number of picks he had, it was those 3 first rounders I mentioned who were the most impactful...the rest were okay at best.

I'm trying to find where Buffalo acquired MacKinnon because Steve drafted him originally in 2013.

Yeah this is a bit cringe for me. If florida won that round the finals would have been Anaheim v Philadelphia with me winning 12-3-1...but ya gotta beat the best to be the best and these things happen, so all accolades to Matt. I'll just forever have a pang of loathing when in trade talks with Chris in the future haha

To CHI Hall + Depres to BUF Mackinnon + Bjorkstrand

When Bjorkstrand was a prospect and Mackinnon hadn’t broke out. Those type of trades are why I have my team. I’ve posted the assets I took over before but the prospects were nothing special rebuilders here now have way more. I traded a lot of picks/prospects for players instead of just perpetually rebuilding. I definitely got lucky and 5 straight is more luck than skill as evidenced by surviving a 1st round scare on a goalie max rule.

Found it, 2013 draft I didn’t make the picks and Shoalzie showed that there were three good picks and 3 busts. The 6 1sts in 2014 were late picks, we have seen stacked teams like Mike and Mik have similar draft pick quantity. I think I traded all my 2014 1sts too haha.

Also congrats to Matthew on a great season and epic final. Was coming to terms with losing a few days ago. I won $855 in NHLDL winning presidents trophy and playoffs so I was convincing myself it was ok if I lost in bbkl.

Matthew your prospects are way better than mine and your roster is almost as strong and I’m going to be over the cap. I don’t think I will be keeping up this dominance for much longer.

Unfortunately at the time I had all the 1sts BBKL valued 1sts at a shitty backup goalie or old 3rd/4th liner. The value of 1sts went way up with new GMs joining and the switch to so many rebuilders.

lol, on top of the prospects coming from the 2013 picks made by the previous GM, there are 29 picks in 2014, including 14 in the first 2 rounds. Not sure any team has ever had a similar load of picks two drafts in a row

Congrats Matt on retaining the title. It was an outstanding final...if it went another week, the lead probably would've changed hands a couple more times.

It was satisfying to have a true finish to a season for the first time a few years. Excited to start getting ready for '22-23.
