Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Glad the first part of the saga is over...obviously the surgery is next and hopefully that works for him. He's too talented of a player to have him wasting away his prime years over something as silly as what kind of surgery to get to fix an obvious problem. The losing in Buffalo had to be taking a toll on him and this surgery fiasco was the last straw. His days in Buffalo were long over and they had no choice but to move him.
Vegas will be very talented on the NHL level but they've emptied their cupboards. Brendan Brisson is essentially their best prospect...granted, he's off to a good start this year at Michigan. The best (and maybe the worst) part of Vegas having success right away...it pretty much turned them from being an expansion team trying to slowly build to thinking they can be a perennial contender.
From a Buffalo perspective...they've had some clunker deals involving trading away big names. The Ryan O'Reilly deal essentially yielded them Tage Thompson and a couple picks. I would like to think Alex Tuch and Peyton Krebs is a better return than Patrick Berglund and Vladimir Sobotka.

This is obviously a much better return than the ROR deal. I'm not a fan of Tuch, but he's more useful than any of the NHL pieces they got in the ROR deal. And Krebs should develop into a really good NHL piece. Buffalo was always going to lose in a deal in which they are trading away their franchise player, but this is about as well as they could hope to do given the circumstances.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
The Sabres had no leverage because the player wanted out and he doesn't exactly have a neat and tidy contract that everyone could take on. Leave it to Vegas add another beefy deal to their roster. 3 out of their 4 biggest contracts are currently on LTIR.
I am going to look forward to the 1st line wars in the spring with Pacioretty-Eichel-Stone vs. Landeskog-MacKinnon-Rantanen. You can't overlook the Oilers either...but they need to prove they're more than just a regular season team.

Are they going to be cap compliant when all their bodies come back?! Or do subsequent moves need to occur?Shoalzie wroteCOLONThe Sabres had no leverage because the player wanted out and he doesn't exactly have a neat and tidy contract that everyone could take on. I was under the impression they were under the floor after moving Eichel. Eichel was on regular IR for the Sabres so they could use his salary but the Golden Knights put him on LTIR for them since they're a cap team. If you look at CapFriendly right now, it looks like the Sabres are right around the floor with Tuch on regular IR.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Not just the goal itself but the time that it was done...late in the third to tie it up. Highlight reel but it was clutch. It's just silly he can slalom through 4 guys clustered near the net.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
The goal almost looks in slow motion the way Wayne, Mario, and Orr used to make it seem like everyone was just standing still around them.

Ghost trade worked out well for Arizona. They got paid a 2nd to take ghosts contract, that they needed to be at the floor. And now he has 9 points in 12 games.Shoalzie wroteCOLONOn top of that, they basically threw away Ghost to Arizona...the Coyotes back to collecting picks in exchange dead money or bad contracts.
Seemingly, the Flyers flip goalies and defensemen like it's the summer and winter Olympics rotation. This year it's the defense....in two years, watch your ass Carter Hart.

Arizona can't do much right but they've weaponized their cap space better than anyone. The Chayka stuff with losing picks hurts but they're not going to be hurt for long if they can collect more picks and take bad contracts.
