League Announcements Discussion
Re: League Announcements Discussion
Just allow all covid cases to be sent to the minors, no penalties, etc. All the benefits and downsides as IR and LTIR (stacked teams blah blah) but without the headache. It's a weird year, let's just roll with the punches.
Create a Covid thread where they are tracked and as soon as they become active, they need to be recalled immediately.

Samsonov is the latest that comes to mind https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2 ... tive-test/CasperX22 wroteCOLONkyuss wroteCOLONI'm saying 3rd straight week out for covid protocol should be treated like the case of a player who officially tested positive. It's basically the same situation. We'll see if CC will clarify that.
And I think I've actually seen a few cases of players that were known to have tested positive this season so far.
previously also Zibanejad & Erik Johnson I think.

Conversely, week 4-end shouldn't suck because the rules weren't right from the start.Handsome&FairMike wroteCOLONAlso, changing the rules now will potentially benefit those with current issues and not be fair to teams who had issues in weeks 1-3.

Basically, the approach taken in other leagues, create a special COVID LTIR that has a 1-week minimum to ensure no one is penalized due to the lack of information/uncertainties of a pandemic.Da_Hawks wroteCOLONJust allow all covid cases to be sent to the minors, no penalties, etc. All the benefits and downsides as IR and LTIR (stacked teams blah blah) but without the headache. The line between on COVID list & tests positive is so fine that it's best to just be as lenient as possible.

then we would have had GMs complaining the deep teams (like mine) get helped by such rule and the other teams penalized conversely.Jordan (VGK) wroteCOLONBasically, the approach taken in other leagues, create a special COVID LTIR that has a 1-week minimum to ensure no one is penalized due to the lack of information/uncertainties of a pandemic.Da_Hawks wroteCOLONJust allow all covid cases to be sent to the minors, no penalties, etc. All the benefits and downsides as IR and LTIR (stacked teams blah blah) but without the headache. That's the same in any year, have depth in case of injuries and you stand to benefit. Nothing is new, now we're just punishing teams for lack of information being given to us to dress optimal lineups.kyuss wroteCOLONthen we would have had GMs complaining the deep teams (like mine) get helped by such rule and the other teams penalized conversely.Jordan (VGK) wroteCOLONBasically, the approach taken in other leagues, create a special COVID LTIR that has a 1-week minimum to ensure no one is penalized due to the lack of information/uncertainties of a pandemic.Da_Hawks wroteCOLONJust allow all covid cases to be sent to the minors, no penalties, etc. All the benefits and downsides as IR and LTIR (stacked teams blah blah) but without the headache. Everyone should be able to dress their optimal lineup, and if your optimal lineup is 3 skaters short because you don't have reserves, that's your fault.

and i dont even give a shit about staying competitive either. but want this for others who are competing. there is no need to over complicate things with more restirctions to begin with. rebuilders dont give a shit. but competers need this. middling teams have the option to use it if offered. this is it.
then basically, we are implementing this on TOP of what we wouldve had as our plain reg season rules:
those who have the depth to cover covid players being out (and stashed in minors with no penalty until they r back) may ultimately be most advantageous. this was no different with plain injuries that strike, but minus covid happening. treat it as a nonfactor. mik has two minor teams in his farm so it makes no diff for him. for me, i normally dont even put guys on IR even if they’re injured in real life cuz no depth to cover it anyhow and keeping them active helps me upkeep cap floor.

Re: League Announcements Discussion
Who is being penalized in this case exactly? It will always be the case that having a deeper team is an advantage COVID or not. Teams choose to run thin lineups/bet on prospects or others look to build depth. The argument works in reverse too. If the purpose of BBKL is to model itself as closely as possible on the NHL it doesn't make sense to hamstring teams by not allowing them to use their players because the NHL has decided/ is not legally able to disclose positive cases versus players simply entering protocols.kyuss wroteCOLONthen we would have had GMs complaining the deep teams (like mine) get helped by such rule and the other teams penalized conversely.Jordan (VGK) wroteCOLONBasically, the approach taken in other leagues, create a special COVID LTIR that has a 1-week minimum to ensure no one is penalized due to the lack of information/uncertainties of a pandemic.Da_Hawks wroteCOLONJust allow all covid cases to be sent to the minors, no penalties, etc. All the benefits and downsides as IR and LTIR (stacked teams blah blah) but without the headache. Basically the same idea as the taxi squad except we're technically sending players to the minors.Da_Hawks wroteCOLONJust allow all covid cases to be sent to the minors, no penalties, etc. All the benefits and downsides as IR and LTIR (stacked teams blah blah) but without the headache. Simple has to be the way to go about things this year because we are all playing blind.

so I guess I should have been able to send Dallas' and Florida's players to minors in the 1st week? Re: League Announcements Discussion
Sure assuming you couldn't use that method to get legal for the initial roster lock, I don't see much room for abuse. We are just allowing teams to dress their best lineups any given week based on the information available at the time. Forcing you to dress players who aren't playing that week is unnecessarily punitive. If you have the depth to cover these missed games you should be able to use them because you planned for it.kyuss wroteCOLONso I guess I should have been able to send Dallas' and Florida's players to minors in the 1st week? "We are just allowing teams to dress their best lineups any given week"
that's not what was decided and it's not what we had in the past for injured players either. It's not like you can just bury injured players in the minors. You can't even automatically put all of them on LTIR

Injuries normally have a timeline associated with them thus the nuance of IR/LTIR. COVID protocol has shown to have no timetable and no information around it.kyuss wroteCOLON"We are just allowing teams to dress their best lineups any given week"

Re: League Announcements Discussion
In the past teams always announced whether an injury was day-to-day or week-to-week to the best of their knowledge. The same information isn't available at the moment. It seems silly to apply regular injury rules to COVID when it is an entirely different situation and, as many are arguing, there are better and more simple solutions available
Re: League Announcements Discussion
actually, the vast majority of players who go under covid protocol don't miss more than 2 weeks, so there is a timeline associated with them. Not all of them will eventually fall within that timeframe, but that also happens for injured players who are supposed to be out 1 or 2 games and end up missing weeksJordan (VGK) wroteCOLONInjuries normally have a timeline associated with them thus the nuance of IR/LTIR. well we played 3 weeks under certain rules, so we are not going to change things completely now, during the season. Seems a pretty obvious reason for resistance.Jordan (VGK) wroteCOLONI really don't get the resistance here.

So the official word/stance is nothing is going to be changed? Just trying to get info to make roster decisions.
