Youre not missing much. Was very jigh on him initially but the more i looked in depth the morebhe dropped on my rankings until he fell off completely.
Boom/bust and KHL factor made me take Kleven over him. Seeing too many Russians recently use their leverage to shorten their ELCs and get paid earlier.

Saw a few Zadorov comparables and he is a beast in this format.
I don't get the Zadorov comparisons tbh, to the point to me style-wise he reminds me more of Gonchar than Zadorov, albeit more aggressive/physical (when he feels like).

Anyway, I like his upside and I guess the boom/bust label applies.

I wonder if by "the more looked in depth" Chuck refers to actually watching him play or reading some stuff on the internet, cause lately for whatever reason he got quite some hate on twitter.

But I saw him play in KHL before the virus lockdown and he looked just fine to me.

I think the hate stems from this. A player who looks fine shouldn't be your 1st round selection like he has been ranked by some. Simply existing in a top men's league isn't good enough for that high of a pick.

Anyways like I said previously, at this stage of the draft it's worth a consideration. In 2 other leagues, he went mid 2nd and I think that's too high for me.

well the hope is he is not going to be only "fine" in KHL once he matures... he has the skills/tools for that to happen imo. Not to mention, most players selected in the 2nd round would look far from fine in competitive KHL games as of now.

Also, iirc the haters maintain he shouldn't be drafted at all

at the least he decides to pick a bottom 3 goalie of the draft class for whatever reason, with 2nd, and 4th best ones still up for grabs lol

Twitter scouts tend to overreact when they are lower on someone than consensus. "He'll go earlier than I'd be willing to take him" gets translated into "he's trash waste of pick" to sound cool.

I'm guilty of this to some extent, but I am not putting rankings out there for the world to see.

When you get to the 3rd round and later, what exactly is a reach? Some times you really want to a player and you don't have another pick for quite a while...you draft them when you can. Or you have a lot of picks and you sprinkle in some players that you have rated higher than others. You insulate your gamble with having a lot of picks. Criticizing strategy is nonsense when we don't know which NHL teams are picking these guys.

How many of these players have we actually watched play? There's a reason I pay for all those draft guides...I'll let someone who watches these guys tell me who they are and what kind of players could become. When my son gets older, I'd like to introduce him to the game and we can catch some OHL games in Saginaw and Flint or catch the NTDP in Plymouth and I can watch plenty of college hockey in the area. European prospects are my admittedly my blind spot.

I used to have a HockeyTv sub, which I sometimes used for fantasy purposes but I didn't find it very useful. For the most part, scouting/watching is just confirming your preconceived notions about a player whatever they may be.

I went to a few 67s/Olympiques games this year and came away thinking Rossi/Lafreniere are clearly good & fun players to watch, but if I said I saw much more than that I'd be lying. Hockey is a very difficult game to process everything in real-time, especially considering the majority of what you need to look for resides outside of the highlight tape/away from the puck. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't think any of us would get significantly superior results from watching games.

Respect his opinion on prospects and enjoy talking hockey with him, but in this league at least his drafting record leaves a lot to be desired. *cough* 1st round Bracco *cough*

Can't help if the Leafs don't play their best players.
