How do you figure expansion fall out? .

I was under the impression the Blackhawks could have protected only one out of Crawford and Darling, so they would have lost him for nothing. But thanks for letting me know that has nothing to do with the trade

Darling wasn't under contract nor was he going to resign in Chicago. Absolutely zero to do with expansion.

Yeah, Chicago knew he was walking and got something for him rather than nothing. Vegas isn't taking a UFA as Matthew said above. Weird move for Carolina though, giving up a 3rd for a pending UFA. Better hope they can sign him.

I doubt he signs with anyone before the start of fa. They basically bought the right to negotiate and throw some numbers around before he goes and talks to other teams. He's likely going where ever he has the best chance to be the clear starter.

Even Toews and Kane aside, 6.875m a year for 7 more years for Seabrook when he's already 32, $6m a year for Crawford, 6 more years of the twilight years of Keith, 4 more years of the shadow of Hossa. That's rough. With Panarin's extension kicking in they need to pay literally everyone else on their roster under $1m a year.
