Toews can be thanked for a lot of that defensive game IMO

It's such a luxury for Canada to have guys like Toews and Bergeron to kill penalties but they're also dangerous 5-on-5. Nash played a strong defensive game as well...very underrated as a skater. They've got plenty of offensive skill but the number of players that are good at both ends of the ice...it's almost unfair.
You put their talent against the Americans and you see how 1-dimensional some of the Americans are. I've talked about them needing to development for defensemen but they also need to create more 2-way forwards. The goaltending appears to be strong based on the NHL talent but at the amateur level as well.

Seth Jones is a perfect Olympic material. Orpik was a waste of a roster space

USA shud have added yandle + jack johnson over orpik + fowler/carlson
Re: What's Your Opinion: Canada vs Kessel/JVR in the Olympic
I actually think USA's strength is in it's two way players. Kesler, Backes, Callahan, Stepan, Pavelski and Parise all play a great two way game. You are correct about the defensemen or lack there of though. I think that was the difference in the Canada game, our D is our greatest strength and was able to win us games while our forwards struggle to score.Shoalzie wroteCOLONIt's such a luxury for Canada to have guys like Toews and Bergeron to kill penalties but they're also dangerous 5-on-5. The biggest strength of the USA, imo anyways, is the USNDP. Most of their star players came through it together and the familiarity of your players is a great asset. It showed early on in the tourney when they came out hot while everyone else was finding their legs.
On a side note, how can anyone be cheering for USA here? Other than our American members of course. Finland has been a remarkable underdog story this year and has Selanne in his last Olympics. I am loving the game today, want that bronze for Teemu.

What a meltdown...

It was obvious, IMO, whoever lost between Canada and USA yesterday was going to lose today.

Changed my mind - go Canada. Marleau and Vlasic need to bring home gold.
