At first i was against this, but if you think back to other hockey champtionships (WJs, Oly, etc...) they've had a hard time finding guys to put with crosby (other than Iggy)

it would make sense to take kunitz actually.

Yeah man. If we don't maximize Crosby's output, that's a mistake. If Kunitz helps us do that, fuck yes he should be on. We'll see though. I can see the argument to leave him off too. Just personally think the chemistry with Crosby should make the decision easy.

Considering the options Canada has, witnessing Kunitz on the Olympic team, on the bigger surface also, would be a shame. Even more so thinking that playing with Crosby means he wouldn't be on the 4th line.

I'd be willing to bet he is left off. Putting him on the team is just asking for controversy since his inclusion would come at the expense of a much better player and if Canada loses the backlash against management for taking Kunitz over Hall/Ladd/St. Louis/Lucic/Sharp/Seguin/Benn or whoever doesn't make the team, but are better than Kunitz would be huge.

Sure Kunitz and Crosby have played well together, but that's because they don't have other elite talent to put on his wings. Throw Stamkos on Crosby's wing and I don't think they will perform poorly due to their lack of chemistry. The olympics are also on the bigger ice so the angles and positioning are different, which makes their familiarity with each other on the ice less important.

I don't think there would be any controversy in trying to maximize the output from Sidney. If anything, leaving him out and we lose would generate more controversy considering how dominant of a duo Crosby and Kunitz are in the NHL.

My point is I think Crosby-Giroux or Crosby-Stamkos would maximize Canada's offence more than Crosby-Kunitz. Would you argue that if Crosby was on a line with Stamkos or Giroux in the NHL they would be a less dominant duo than Crosby-Kunitz?

Also surprised you feel leaving Kunitz off would generate more controversy than taking him. You think leaving Kunitz off would cause more controversy than leaving Hall or St. Louis off? I just don't see many fans making a fuss over leaving a player like Kunitz off when it is geneally accepted he only puts up the stats he does due to Crosby.

I don't think the question is whether Crosby-Giroux would generate more offence in the NHL. Crosby and Kunitz DO play together and finding Crosby linemates he gels with has proven to be extremely difficult in the past. Stamkos will be Stamkos on another line with St. Louis hopefully. I'd much rather take Kunitz than Giroux though considering we have people to fill every role Giroux could fill (more than enough quality Cs in Toews, Bergeron, Getzlaf, Staal, Tavares etc.) but not enough people to wing Crosby.

I see where you are coming from, my stance is just the "chemistry" between Kunitz-Crosby is overrated and Kunitz and Dupuis look good because Crosby is amazing. If Crosby struggled at the olympics I wouldn't think it was because he didn't have Kunitz on his line, but I could be wrong. As long as Canada brings home gold I could care less who they bring since we could field a 2nd team that could play competitively.

I just want to see a speedier roster. Get hall on the 4th line, St. Louis in the top 9

I personally do not understand why Edmonton would do a trade like this. Miller is 33 and a UFA. He wouldn't be good for long enough to stay with their kids. Meanwhile Yakupov is only 20. Calm the fuck down Edmonton.

they need a deal like this if they can get both of those UFAs signed

i watch all their games, they're pretty brutal actually - eakins was a bad hire IMO - no passion to light a fire under the youngsters like patty roy does with his young kids.

2 horrid coach hirings this year:

Eakins + Craig Brueble

the oilers needed to bring in a guy who's charismatic, and the flyers should have brought in an outside coach when they canned their coach last week. those players have given up on that staff.
