I don't think he's worth more than 5.5 tbh but I can't see a guy taking 1 mil less annually than his current contract considering his age and role on the team. We'll probably lock him up at that number.

Agreed. I can live with 6.5 but I think it's a little high.

i can't see Dion more than he's making now, as i dont think he's the same player the flames signed to that massive contract 5 years ago.

that said (he's taking more of a leadership role - you know, being a Captain and all)

so as Arian and mike suggest, he wont make less than he is now

lol got owned by who about what?

and no doubt i'll miss most of Leafs games as usual, i think the hundred of games of Kessel i've seen was enough to figure out who's better between him and Giroux anyway

Nope it wasn't.

I'd personally lean towards Giroux as well, but a comparison like that is far from over given how young both players are and how much more there is to prove.

When it's all said and done, Kessel ending up on top is very possible.

Anyone who thinks Kessel is comparable or will be comparable to Giroux is delusional lol. Only Leaf fans....

Kessel was better than Giroux last season...Why you don't think that can be repeated doesn't make sense to me.

I feel like people watch Kessel and they see a goal scorer. But Kessel is much more than that. He's a gamebreaker first and a scorer second.

shiv is right, people think Kessel and they think of the 22 year old sniper, they fail to realize (or just dont watch leaf games) to know that he's become quite the dynamic player.

Yeah and he's only 25. Tbh, I think Kessel can hit Iginla (in his prime) type value on the wing (though they're different type of players), maybe even better with his playmaking abilities. He's not Alex Semin, which is what people try to make him sound like.

It's because he's a leaf,

God, look at the deals the ducks just signed with Getz + Perry. Everyone was ok with those deals because they weren't leafs.

When Subban signs for 8.5mil per, hab fans are gonna be like "oh, he took a hometown discount" but when kessel signs 8mil, it's "he's overpaid by 3mil"

give me a break

Kessel scored more than Giroux last year... that's about the only thing he'll ever compete with Giroux on. Really driving up that leaf fan reputation with this comparison. Leadership, compete level, defensive play, all miles apart.

Not shocking that Randy would praise Phil during contract talks...LOL, he's a immature little brat that needs coddling (from the outside at least). And Jake has never been in Randy's good-books, aside from playing him 22min+ a night. Dunno why I should like a player because the coach does though.

Kessel
GP:48 G:20 A:32 P:52 +/-: -3 Hits: 16 blocked shots: 23

Giroux
GP:48 G13 A35 P48 +/-:-7 Hits: 57 Blocked shots: 28

So Kessel wins:
Goals
Points
+/-

Almost identical:
Assists (by 3)
Blocked shots (by 5)

I'd take Giroux over Kessel without much thought, but yeah I think Phil's close. And because Nick brought him up, Toews over either any day by a good margin.

Toews

-
Giroux
-
Kessel

i'd take Toews over both as well,

to me Giroux and kessel are a toss up, i'd probably take Kessel because I, the wife and the baby all have kessel jerseys and i'd hate to have to purchase new ones.

me to, but it's close; both by a safe margin over Phil.
