Good trade Anton. You win long term but meh. Funny how this started with me bashing Ference haha.

Yup he will. Pretty fair trade I'd say. Ference will see 1st Pairing minutes, while Penner sees time on the 1st line.

until he stabs himself in the face with a fork, misses a week worth of practices, gains 15lbs of fat then retires.

I'd be surprised to see Penner with Getz & Perry.

Gotta think they'll give it a shot in preseason at least

still love the fact that Penner means Bum (homeless person) in German.

I think he will get a shot on that line for sure. Has in the past. I expect both he and Palmeri get extended looks there.

PALMIERI - Getzlaf - Perry
Selanne - Koviu - Silverberg
Penner - Holland - Etem
w/Winnik, Belesky and whoever else they have down on the 4th.

I guess Penner could get a shot up there... I just recall how much he sucks and cannot imagine anyone hoping for him to play top line.

Selanne is a RW through and through, never played LW in his career so I don't foresee a change there. Cogs/Koivu/Selanne had incredible chem to end last season, it could be a line that gets a chance this year but I see cogs returning to the C position. Penner had his best year playing with Getz and Perry, he could go back to those ways if motivated.

I see it as

Penner - Getz - Perry
Palmieri - Koivu - Selanne
Winnik - Cogliano - Etem/Silf
Belesky - Holland - Etem/Silf

ex Bonino
to start the season anyways.

i know its HF, but if you go through the Lineup thread, virtually every single poster has Penner w/ Perry and Getz.

Palmieri was just OK with them last season - definitely a backup plan, but I bet they signed Penner with putting him with Perry/Getz in mind.

I watched at least 40% of ANA games last season and Palmieri/Etem/Belesky/Ryan/Cogliano were all only OK with them last season. The only guy in recent years to have natural chem with those two is Penner. You have to believe he gets a shot there as it has been an impossible task in finding a player who fits on that line. Thankfully for ANA they don't need a third player on that line lol.

they might use Etem with perry/getz or give it a try, Etem would be good with those two he has the skill set he could use his speed to push the D man back and then give the puck to the trailer or drive the net., and with Getz passing abilities he should be able to hit Etem with speed going up the boards, it be fun to watch....ive used that play 100 of times in beer league but last year my C wasn't scoring and I had Facey as the other winger haha maybe i would have been better just shooting hahaahaha

Shook you don't even have Silfverberg making the team! Main piece in the Bobby Ryan deal, I hope they have a spot for him!

edit... dunno how i missed him listed twice. Guess i moved on after not seeing him in the top6

there is virtually no chance Etem starts the year on that line - or even in the NHL. being waiver exempt is going to fuck him. the signing of penner and the return of selanne has pretty much sealed it.

he had about a 8-10 game try out there, mind you it was 4 games here and there but still he had zero chemistry with those two. He, out of the group I mentioned before, had the least production on that line. I don't doubt he gets on that line at some point in the season when things aren't going great, but I don't think it is something they keep going back to. Like Ryan, he is much more effective on the right side then the left.
