I could see him worth 4M this season. I hate how players get term and coin for what they should be vs what they currently are but I think kadri is currently worth 4M. He was on pace for 75 points last year, it is hard to argue that he wouldn't be worth 4M next year. in fact if he repeats last year, it is hard to argue he isn't worth more. If I were him my goal would be like 4M for two years. Clearly the leafs wont give him the term he wants, take the bridge and rape them next time around when they have to give you 6+ with term.

some sports media guys are saying leafs will use henrique's contract as leverage on Kadri, as both have produced similar numbers in similar games to this point.

I actually typed out a post similar to what Shook said. Kadri was worth more than $4M last year, and will likely be again this year.

Currently contracts are given out based on what you did over your last contract, not for what you are going to do.

Kadri's best years could easily be his next 5. However he'll get hyis best pay days after that.

RoR's bridge was 5M, Subban's was 2.85M, instead of going with either of those style short-term options, I'd want term on this deal. Put off the pay-day just a little, but don't have him wanting to rengotiate or anything crazy. 4M x 6 years would be epic, IMO.

That wasn't a bridge contract

that's a fat man fucking up and almost ruining his team.

edit - i will agree that 4 x 6 would be epic for kadri.

You wonder if we see less of this next year if the cap goes back up to where it was before...and will we see some of these guys come back next year. Part of why I'm not in a hurry to get rid of the Euro defectees because some of them might not be there permanently. Free agency next summer should be very interesting depending on how much more teams will have to spend...and there's still several teams that can use their compliance buyouts.

is there anything in the new CBA that suggests the cap goes up next year?

You almost have to imagine this year was supposed to be the first year of the cap under the new CBA and then it goes up from here based on HRR. I have to think the only reason it was higher last year was because several teams already had guys under contract that didn't allow them to be at the lower cap number...it was basically a grace period. This offseason gave everyone time to get down to a lower number.
