I guess the main point is how the immediate reduction from 57% to 50% would be performed.

The NHL offer might be tricky (in a very positive way) if it's meant this way:
(i haven't read anything like that around so i guess here it's only an uneducated hope of mine)

82 schedule -> entire season -> entire salaries (to which the 57->50 would be applied).

Like:
"you know the checks you missed yesterday? your 1/13 of the season wages? well, you will have it back, and going from 57 to 50 at that point will almost be like getting the 100% of the 12/13 wages still available. "

So it would basically be the max money the players can get for this season by now.
That could solve the 1st year salary reduction problem.
Then i'm sure Fehr would still want to negotiate any other relevant thing, like getting contracts length to 6 or 7, but that should be do-able in a reasonable timeframe.


This being said, if the way the salaries would drop accordingly with the 57 to 50 reduction in the NHL proposal isn't enticing, then i fully expect Fehr to come out tomorrow with an underwhelming reaction. He knows he can't simply reject this offer this time around without negotiating, but still playing hard balls on that sticking point and making things more difficult than they should be.

I think we should wait for the NHLPA's reply tomorrow before letting hopes fly too high and feeling like it's a given a deal will be done shortly.

Always hoped the 5yrs thing was a bluff from the league.. sounded like shooting in their feet as for the NHL/KHL 'competition'.

I hope the league will give up something on contracts length before budging on UFA. I like it more at 28/8yrs.

im finding myself turning on the players more and more as time passes.

Paul Bissonnette is no more representative of the PA's collective IQ than George Parros. Though it should come as no surprise that there are some players who are uninformed about collective bargaining, most pro hockey players don't have an education beyond high-school.

52% of HRR for year 1 then dropping to 50% in the final 5 years (Nhlpas last offer was 54% dropping to 52% in the final years)
3 year ELCs
7 year contract max
Teams allowed to trade cap of player/retain a part of players salary (Max 3M per year of contract)
UFA at 27 or 8 years of service.
All 1-way contracts to count towards salary cap.
Teams will be allowed to exceed salary cap up to 70.2M for year 1.
220M to be given out to the bottom ten revenue teams, with the top ten teams being hit the hardest.

82 game season to resume on November 2nd.

It's the first time the owners have made an honest attempt to reach back towards the players for the sake of saving this season...and it's the first time I actually think this could happen. The owners wanting a 46 or 47% share for the players was never going to happen...especially if it involved rollbacks. If they can come up with a system to keep the owners from further cannibalizing themselves and the players still get paid while the league keeps making more money...I don't know what more they could want.

Selfishly, with the Tigers going for a possible title...I'd be happy with hockey coming back next month because I wouldn't be paying a lot of attention to them right now.
