Re: OTT/BUF
Its more a matter of need. Phion is gonna be cutting GP minimums close so he's willing to lose a deal or two to try and avoid further issues with the CC. I think Billy wins the deal but its not a bad deal by Phion by any stretch of the imagination. He's just operating from a position of need.
Re: OTT/BUF
phion gains a C 4.5M in cap gp everything his team needs and doesnt lose any of his top assets.
Re: OTT/BUF
Jankowski was massively over drafted by inept management.

I need games played, a C, and some cap

Re: OTT/BUF
LOL couple of guys explaining away a terrible deal.
He can find cap and GP way way cheaper or higher quality than this.

People wanted top prospects for average NHLers. Janko is one of my middle of the pack assets and satisfies my needs all in one deal.

Re: OTT/BUF
To be fair its not like Olli Jokinen hasn't played nearly this shitty before then turned it around. He's still blows though and is old as balls. Janko is nothing special either imo, will either bust or be an okay scorer.
Re: OTT/BUF
last week Gagne, Poni, Morrow, etc were all available - I'm confident a 2nd and Eager/Peters would have got you some of those. No need to part with a developing first rounder, especially when that is your build of choice. Hell I cannot figure out why Olli would garner this return.
This is, literality to the T, a destruction cycle we've seen before. Bad deals for prospects, and trading prospects in worse deals due to lack of communication & due diligence - at each stage justified by the (typically new-ish) GM, but the cycle definitely not defendable.
I am not trying to shit on you Phion, it's just something we've seen a few times over the last 4+ years. Your increasing awareness of our regulations and league fit is a good thing.

They are not negative value, there's more contract room in our league than there are contracts to go around. Plus they are both actually NHLers - and via proper GM scheduling can help you with your GP needs. Hell, Raffi is typically a good BBKL piece.I tossed in Eager and Peters to lose contracts.

Peters just cleared waivers and has no value, he isn't an NHLer.
Eager probably couldve fetched a slight return.
I viewed it as:
Eager + 3rd for Bollig
Janko + Peters for Jokinen.

Re: OTT/BUF
You were getting Janki (what #20 pick?) + 2nd + 3rd for Olli ?
Dude that is just trying pillaging Phion. Taking developing assets off of a rebuilder for a quickly dropping in value asset. Now it's not your fault by any stretch, he's in charge of his team. Ugh, cap & gp are not 'valued' unless due to mis-managment and poor approach to dressing a roster. These are argument's we've seen before, and don't need to relive.

Re: OTT/BUF
I traded Mike Knuble and Alexi Kovalev for future assets. One former 2nd rounder, a 3rd rounder playing in the NHL, and 2 pretty decent assets if they ever come back. Alexi and Knuble are diminished assets. Where is the talk of removing Shiv or myself?

Talk of removal comment comes out of no where.
Shiv & you purposely made trades in order for players to contribute their stat-line. Not for cap.
Anyways, I said my piece, will step aside.
Re: OTT/BUF
I've made far worse trades, that's for sure.

I like this trade for Phion. The only significant assets he gave up are a third rounder and Jankowski, I would take a proven player in Jokinen over them all day, every day.

and in that defence it makes a much better point - but from his comments and conversation with him, that is not how this trade was constructed.

If that is true, you are right, Phion is exhibiting the signs of a destructive cycle.Nick wroteCOLONMSP4LYFE wroteCOLONI like this trade for Phion. The only significant assets he gave up are a third rounder and Jankowski, I would take a proven player in Jokinen over them all day, every day.
