I'm gunna go out and say I think bbkl is critiquing phion too harshly, the guy may have completely blown up his team, and is intentionally bombing what was before a borderline playoff squad, but I think he has a good eye for futures and should be given a little more trust as the manager for his squad.
Already he has had a couple prospects come in and make much larger than expected impacts in Gallagher and Bennett, has basically stocked up all his assets into first round draft picks (ffucking 12 of them), which even value wise isn't a terrible thing, and if he scouts well he can make even more of that, especially with a stacked draft class such as 2013.
Actually the biggest critique I'd give to Phion is the fact that his team isn't bad enough! He might jump out the bottom 5 picks, which would really suck for him, although there is arguably 7 or 8 guys talented enough to be considered top 3-5 guys in an average draft year.
Overall though, with Gallager, Bennett, Morgan Rielly, 12 first rounders, and a bunch prospects worth mentioning, I'd argue he hasn't even lost that much value on his overall squad, and is clearly taking the 'fun' route, which is the sign of him wanting to stick with his team and make the best of it. In another year or two i really don't see Phion's team being as much of a shitshow as you guys think he is on track to making it.
On the contrary I think if you were to boot him another gm would poorly manage his assets, because he has clearly scouted and understands his teams dynamics better than a random gm would.

Lol... I didn't mean to cause all this by doing a pretty minor deal...
I liked Jankowski last year at the draft, he reminded me about Colborne a lot. But I liked him as a 2nd rounder, and that's how I value him. (Early 2nd/possibly late 1st).
In all fairness, Billy wanted Brad Ross instead and I declined that. Jankowski might have a higher ceiling (debated), but Ross has a much higher chance of becoming an NHL player, even if his offense doesn't translate.
I was looking to acquire cap from old IR'd players, but the cost was a 2nd+. For the slight upgrade from a 2nd to Janko I was able to get more cap, games played, and a center. All of which I needed.
I also got some more depth games played from Bollig.
I honestly don't see how this is a destructive cycle. What would be destructive is if I miss the minimum GP and get my pick moved down substantially, or if my team wouldn't be cap compliant when my guys come off IR.

As to me blowing up a playoff team, it wasnt my team, I didn't build it.
It's much "funner" creating my own team from scratch and it makes future success even better.
Not to mention I had no picks in the first 2 rounds and only one first next year. I love following prospects so that's a big part of the experience for me

Your team was probably the worst team in the history of BBKL and you actually have assets and decent players now. You should be proud of what you have done to this point.

yeah, no doubts, i don't know how different it was exactly compared with what's been posted, but it was clearly worse than the one you (and me, too) inherited, that's for sure.
Now, to go back on topic...
i don't know what the problem is supposed to be with this deal.
I don't like it, but we have seen much worse deals, and that's without factoring in Phion did it out of necessity.
