not sure why people are talking like i got two 1sts.. with the same reasoning you could say that i got two 2nds instead, and no 1sts..
i'm actually far from comfortable with this deal, it wouldn't surprise me if Bryz rebounded in EDM just to sign as a cheap starter on a better defensively team and contend for Vezina next year lol, anything can happen with him... even being out of pro hockey in a year, so considering my and Scott's roster situations i ended up 'playing it safe'.
I guess the completely different reactions in this thread confirm Bryz is the ultimate enigma.

Maybe, but I think you'd be willing to concede that DET finishing in the basement is a bit more probably than Chuck winning it all right? No offense to either DET or MTL intended.
I also think you'd be willing to concede that the chances of Bryz resurrecting his career in Edmonton of all places is less likely than him fizzling out and heading back home to Russia or simply retiring? Not saying Bryz coming back to his dominant form is impossible but I think that you have taken a much safer route than Scott has in this case is all.

before i was able to reply you had already traded Markov for Gunnarsson lol... so probably you didn't think yourself your offer had chances to land Richards.
and i don't think i belong among those who ignore PMs..

one might say securing Bryz before he establishes himself as the real EDM's #1G was also playing it safe for Scott..
if Bryz wanted to stay in Russia this season was the perfect opportunity:
low salary cap, UFA coming off a bad season, losing his spot on the national team in the Olympic year...
instead he decided to wait for whatever chance he would get to stay in the NHL, hard to think he would chose otherwise next year with the salary cap growing a lot.. probably more at risk of turning to astrology full time lol

All valid points, Josh. It wasn't a move I wanted to make given what it costs to piece together a goaltending situation and things have to go right for this to pay off. Torres probably doesn't go in this deal if he was healthy. If Bryz was going to go to Russia...there was nothing stopping him. He wanted to stay in the NHL so that's something.

I don't blame Mik for asking but as I told him, I'm not going to get full value for that right now and getting a goalie would not be my desired return when I was able to get OEL last spring. This is the wrong time to move a pick like that when so much of the league won't give up impact players for a pick that can't cash in for a few months.

I paid a mid 1st for a BACKUP. That is the going rate.
Bryzgalov was brought in to be the STARTER.
Where is the over payment?
