New Forum?
http://bbkl.ca/viewtopic.php?p=332892#p332892
Since I kind of let the cat out of the bag, I'd at least like to let the rest of you have your say on the matter. I know the revised forum at the start of the season has been a hot button issue.
Best case scenario with the current forum is I secure the forum database and I host it and I have full control over what version of PHP we use. I'm learning what I can about all this stuff and if I can get the database, we'd essentially migrate it to web space I'm already hosting. I might purchase a separate domain for the forum.
Around the start of the new year, I did register for a ProBoards forum for us. It's not public yet while I set it up but it's in progress. The launch of the new forum would be some time in May. The idea is to not have any forum downtime and our new forum launch would be done ahead of our entry draft. The draft would be conducted on the new forum.
Before I go all in on either option, I want you all to have your say.

Don't know much about the different types of boards, but this is the only league I'm in that does not have a chat option at the bottom of form. Whatever we move to, I say we make sure it has that option.
Re: New Forum?
should take advantage of discord. it's pretty good for this type of league from my experience in ADHL and NHLDL we dont use that bottom chat very often. maybe BBKL would be different but it is a nice touchFlorida Chris wroteCOLON ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 7:49 am Don't know much about the different types of boards, but this is the only league I'm in that does not have a chat option at the bottom of form. We tried discord for a bit. Didn’t really catch on.

Re: New Forum?
Seems like pretty strong support for us moving to ProBoards...thanks for those who have voted so far. Please chime in if you haven't already.
I do want to make sure I can connect with Mike Morris and find a way to secure the rights to this forum to keep it online or at least secure the forum database before we turn the lights off for good.
If the move to ProBoards is going to happen, I want that to occur after this current season is complete and we begin the offseason and the build up to the draft. I might spend some time in the next couple weekends getting all the forums setup over there so that's ready to go and all you guys need to do is register your accounts and start doing your business over there.

I'm ready to go.
never did like this site.

Re: New Forum?
Proboards is perfectly adequate. Easy to use, allows for some customization. Not loaded with ads on the free version. And a chat feature.

Does this mean we lose the entire history on these boards?

I'm trying to get a hold of Mike so I can obtain full ownership of this forum or at least secure the database of this forum. I can either migrate it over to my own hosted webspace or I just pay to keep this forum alive but our new business would take place on ProBoards. There's not a lot of support to keep using this current forum.

Re: New Forum?
When our season ends, I'd like to open up registration for the new forum within a week following. I'm giving myself a couple weeks to get the main forum structure finished up before I turn the lights on over there.
I don't think I'll change much with the forums and sub-forum structure other than organizing things in terms of season-to-season activity. There might still be some further customizing to the forums but I want the skeleton of the forum built before there's any cosmetic changes during the summer.
If this is indeed the direction we're going, I want a smooth transition to the new place and I want to make sure all the current GMs are aware of the situation and they make their way over ahead of the draft.
Obviously all the current GMs, along potential replacement GMs and former GMs who still want to be around the community, are encouraged to move over to the new forum.

Re: New Forum?
So, the season officially wraps tonight and we crown a new champion...
The forum migration process will happen next week. I've got a few more things I want to set up over there and then I'll give you a link and allow you to start registering and begin posting over there.
I consider the end of our playoffs as the last major happening that goes on at this forum. It's just a request but if you are making a trade in the next few days, do the customary posting and confirming on the new forum when that's available. My perfect scenario is we're fully up and running over there by next weekend if most of you register and move over there.
When the new forums are up and running, we'll also work on getting the replacements GMs lined up with their new teams.

Also, got another guy interested in joining if we need more GMs for the upcoming season.
