We had 1100 for the full NHL regular season at 82 games. On March 5th when our BBKL regular season finished we had played 78.6% of the NHL games.

Since we are moving from including BBKL playoffs to just BBKL regular season we multiplied .786 * 1100 = 864gp

So 864 gp would be the exact equivalent to 1100 games as a ratio when not including the BBKL playoffs.

CC decided to make it a clean 850 games, meaning we subtracted 14 games.

14/21 =.66 games per week easier.

It is 14 games easier over the entire season than previously.

The lower the number the shittier the roster and thus the longer and harder for that team to ever be competitive.

Where is the logic here? How does acquiring a 32 year-old winger who barely gets on the stat sheet now and will be out of the NHL in 2 years help me be competitive sooner? Wouldn't I be better off with the prospects I gave up to get him?

And ignoring all that logic that should be self-evident, why do other GMs get to tell me what will make my team competitive sooner?

I don't care what other gms do to their teams. But it's important to get games played so as not to make the standings of the playoffs teams too out of whack. If you only dress 9 skaters against a team 9th in his conference, that's hardly fair to the 8th place team.

But having 7 teams miss gp sounds a bit ridiculous too. Glad I'm not in that league.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to take an average of the past 5 seasons rather than using this Season? Not sure it would have made much of a difference, but I would have to think with the condensed schedule there would be some variation in this seasons numbers.

Regardless, over a 21 week span you will need to average approx 40.5 skater gp a week at 850 whereas over a 26 week span you would need to average just under 42.5 skater gp at 1100. I am going to be extremely curious to see if anyone that made 850 at 21 weeks doesn't make 1100 at 26.

As previously stated, only 5 teams missed the previous season with a significantly higher gp number. The moral of the story is that every time you lower the threshold team will further deteriorate their rosters to race to the bottom which is exactly what happened. Some guys blatantly tanked and miscalculated how far the could tear it down to reach the number.

Since our trade deadline is usually in the final week of the regular season...any team flirting with not reaching the 850 number will have to make moves much sooner.

If a team wants to intentionally get worse, that's on them. If you waste your time in the league being a perennial bottom-feeder, just do it within the rules. This 850 number is the lowest it'll go. It might go up if we find that it's too easy. We've changed rules when it was necessary.

I'll speak to my own situation. I was in or near last place for several years and I got sick of it. Pride kicks in at some point and you get tired of getting embarrassed.

To me, it's worth it to make larger moves to improve your team rather than just throw away picks or prospects to acquire guys just for GP and hope you win the lottery and find a franchise player. Even then, one player won't make your team that much better. You need several players to be competitive in this league.

If you're gonna use math to back up yourself, actually do the math before you tell someone else that there's is wrong.

850/21 = 40.47

1100/25 = 44 but since finals are 2 weeks, lets split that up into weekly segments

1100/26 = 42.3
