I watched the first episode a couple weeks back Matthew, it wasn't too bad at all.

Rick and morty is a really good scifi animated show.

Bojack horseman is a smart deep animated comedy.

Both shows have quite strong writing.

I'd say two really good shows that come to mind are "bojack horseman" and "rick and morty". They are adult cartoons, but my favourite shows are the wire and breaking bad. So don't think that these can't appeal to a similar crowd.
