nice to see Elvis fall right in my CLB system

and as expected, Wallmark is drafted this year, going in the top 100kyuss wroteCOLONyeah, much like with Henri Ikonen in 2012... drafted him pretty high in his first year of eligibility and went undrafted, only to be picked by Tampa the following year.Bruyns wroteCOLONWas about to draft Wallmark until realizing Mik took him 61st last year and then he wasn't drafted.
The same will probably happen with Wallmark.
Re: 2014 Draft Discussion - Now an 8 hour window
looks like Ondrej Kase is my free falling guy from this year draft. Looking for DET or CLB at 106/107.
*edit: passed over again. DET going off the board with Swede Ehn. Liked him in limited viewings but looked nothing more than bottom 6 material.
*edit #2: and Kase keeps falling.. at this point I guess they will draft him next year lol
*final edit: went 215th LOL. I like the destination though (Anaheim)

They should just hire me to make a 7th round pick the year before instead of wasting mid rounders the following draft

Re: 2014 Draft Discussion - Now an 8 hour window
Let's see....
#15 - Dylan Larkin -- 15-DET
#18 - Ivan Barbashev -- 33-STL
#21 - Travis Sanheim -- 17-PHI
#27 - Nikita Scherbak -- 26-MTL
#57 - Ondrej Kase -- 215-ANA
#67 - Nicolas Aubé-Kubel -- 48-PHI
#85 - Noah Rod -- 53-SJ
#94 - William Lagesson -- 91-EDM
#99 - Daniel Walcott -- 140-NYR
#120 - Maxim Letunov -- 52-STL
#123 - Saku Maenalanen (2013)
#130 - Louis Belpedio -- 80-MIN
#137 - Juho Lammikko -- 65-FLA
#144 - Igor Shestyorkin -- 118-NYR
#147 - Logan halladay -- undrafted
#159 - Pavel kraskovsky -- 164-WPG
#169 - Eetu Sopanen -- undrafted
#178 - Elvis Merzlikins -- 76-CLB
#185 - Kasimir Kaskisuo -- undrafted
#196 - Olivier Leblanc -- 197-CLB
#199 - Joonas Lyytinen -- 132-NSH
#203 - Hayden Hawkey -- 177-MTL
#206 - Alexander Sharov -- undrafted
EARLY COMMENTS:
quite shocked Kase almost went undrafted, but it seems every other year there is someone I pick high that gets ignored by NHL teams.
I thought the goalies at risk for not being picked were the Russian (because he is Russian) and Hawkey, instead Kaskisuo and moreover Halladay were the two missing the call.
Sharov being undrafted is not a surprise. Sopanen probably just didn't play enough over the last 2 yrs for anyone to feel comfortable in spending a pick on him.
Barbashev dropped way too far but at least the Russian factor helped him being reunited with Jaskin. Love that and seems like a fit in St.Louis.
Sanheim.. i dislike Philly, but their need at that position makes me like the destination. Thought he would go even higher, but hey i still got the destination right in my predictions.
Scherbak at 26 looks like a steal to me for the Habs, and i like he ended up with other Russians.
Nice to see my liking of Kubel and Rod was shared by some NHL teams.
Lagesson, I was confident he would go before Aho, Mattsson, Forsling.. was hoping for 3rd round but the Oilers seem ideal for a D.
Walcott, i knew i reached a bit but didn't want to take risks with him, and 5th round is not bad.
Letunov the sleeper.. yet another Russian in STL.. but long term anyway.
Maenalanen was from last year draft after being selected by the Preds and a nice season afterwards-
Belpedio, very pleased to see him going pretty high despite the smallish size for a D, a fan of his game, and apparently i was not alone on this one.
Lammikko.. didn't expet to draft him and ended up pretty much where i expected.
Shestyorkin..pleased to see him go in the 4th, even if NYR doesn't strike as an ideal destination for a G..
Halladay, i'm upset. Will hold on him anyway.
Kraskovsky.. i was ready to call NHL teams retards for passing over him because of his nationality, but one of the less likely teams did select him around where i did.
Elvis.. and here i thought he was flying under the radar as an overager playing in Lugano.. perfect ending at 76 to the Jackets.
Leblanc.. i guessed i could not hope for two undersized defensemen to go high.. draft day passed by, go and hit the gym Olivier.
Lyytinen..i feared he would go undrafted, very pleased to see him picked by the Preds in the 5th!
Sucks I just missed out on Tryamkin and then he went so early, but i still think Kase has more than 50% to become a better player than him

1:1 -- Aaron Ekblad (selected 1:1 by Florida)
1:3 -- Samuel Bennett (selected 1:4 by Calgary)
2:32 -- Nick Schmaltz (selected 1:20 by Chicago)
2:34 -- Marcus Pettersson (selected 2:38 by Anaheim)

5:121 -- Beau Starrett (selected 3:88 by Chicago)
5:150 -- Pierre Engvall (selected 7:188 by Toronto)
6:151 -- Nick Wolff (undrafted)
6:160 -- Hayden Lavigne (undrafted)
Colby Cave went another draft without being selected after I got him 6:151 in the draft last year.
I've now got 4 Blackhawk forwards in the last two drafts (Tyler Motte, Luke Johnson, Schmaltz and Starrett).
I like seeing a savvy team like Anaheim draft Pettersson considering their recent history with talented European defensemen in the draft.
Wolff is a '15-16 commit for Minnesota-Duluth so maybe next year could be his year and Lavigne was iffy (incoming freshman goalie for Michigan). Encouraging thing with Lavigne, is that the incumbent starter at Michigan (Zach Nagelvoort) went in the 4th round today to Edmonton. Nagelvoort (20 years old) was 11-9-3 with a .929 SV% and 2.20 goals against. As a Michigan fan, I'll be intrigued to follow Dylan Larkin since he was the Wings' 1st round pick.

Very happy with my draft considering how volatile draft lists were. Only 5 of 33 players went undrafted.
- Shocked Snuggerud dropped so far.
- Disappointed Audette dropped but I had a feeling he would solely because of his size. Thrilled by Habs for him though.
- Given the talk around Thomas Im surprised he dropped.
- Got massive steals in Hickey, Montour, Shoenborn and Iacopelli
- First deal with Mike where I gave 2015 1st STL landed me: 1st + 2nd + 2nd
- The deal with Paul where I paid a 5th landed me: 2nd + 3rd + 5th + 7th +7th + undrafted

lol, nice +/- touch on the list Chuck.
Looking better after the draft than before. Still got more undrafted guys than me despite I picked 6 Russians

Re: 2014 Draft Discussion - Now an 8 hour window
I just got the last of the draft info posted. The full draft results can be found in the "Archive" subforum under "Entry Draft".
Re: 2014 Draft Discussion - Now an 8 hour window
Going through our list..
Kulda (NYR) is the biggest faller: 154
contrary to what previously reported/expected, Tryamkin with 126 is not the biggest riser; Schoenborn (MTL) with 128 is.
The highest non selected player is Aho (LA) at #73.
Soon after comes Reich (TOR) at #76
Another goalie, Billia (COL), at #83
As suspected, Nick's favourite Joe Hicketts at #90 was not selected either.
Another G, Minney (PHI) at #97, was never called.
Carpenter (MTL) at #107, G Weyrich (FLA) at #110, Bayreither (CLB) at #111, Hitchcock (COL) at #113, Hopponen (PHX) at #116, G Mancina (TOR) at #118 complete the list of undrafted kids from the first 4 rounds.
I don't think we ever had that many even if in the previous couple of yrs the first 4 rounds were as well completed before the start of the NHL draft.
'Amazing' streak from 107 through 118 with 6 undrafted guys out of 12.
G seems by far the position with the highest ratio of undrafted/drafted.

Re: 2014 Draft Discussion - Now an 8 hour window
2-47 Anthony Deangelo TBL 1-19
4-100 Kelly Summers OTT 7-189
5-122 Nelson Nogier WPG 4-101
5-135 Matthew Berkovitz ANA 5-123
6-152 Clark Bishop CAR 5-127
6-158 Brett Lernout MTL 3-73
6-177 Lawrence Pilut UNDRAFTED
7-182 Darby Llewellyn UNDRAFTED
Missed on my last two late picks, but happy with how things went. All my players were drafted earlier than I expected other than Summers who I knew was a reach, but read good things about him being a late bloomer and liked that he would be spending time in the NCAA since I don't have much contract space left. Lernout going 85 spots higher was a pleasant surprise and getting a mid 1st rounder with the 47th was even better. If a player other than Deangelo makes the NHL in the future I will consider this draft a success.
