I think that 3rd overall this year + Brown + Cole + Ebert is more than worth 4th overall next year. No Brainer IMO. As long as Scotts pick stays out if the top 2 this is bloody murder. And Scott has a full year to improve his team to boot.kyuss wroteCOLONI'm not sure what tells you even pick #4 next year wouldn't be a better asset than this year #3, but the point is what he got imho is not worth giving up the chance to get and trade McDavid (or even Eichel), something that could have turned his franchise around in a way this deal won't even come close.Chuck Norris wroteCOLONI think Scott kills this deal. Very smart move by him. If he can keep improving his team through next year he could easily drop his pick out of the top 3. Only time will tell but it's a calculated gamble.

adding JT Brown + Cole means bloody murder to you? in face of the McDavid hyping?Chuck Norris wroteCOLONI think that 3rd overall this year + Brown + Cole + Ebert is more than worth 4th overall next year. yes 3rd+ Brown + Cole is probably worth more than 4th overall next year, too bad that's only the best case scenario..

I wasn't going to say anything, and just let you guys fight about it in here. But since there were private complaints made apparently, I feel the need to publicly share what I posted in the CC thread.
I traded THE 3rd overall pick, for a CHANCE at a Top 3-5 pick that I might be able to land McDavid/Eichel with or trade up to get into the position to draft one of them. And by the way, look at J.T. Brown's stats as a rookie. He's not a beast, but he's a very solid 3rd liner with great periphs in his first season. Also keep looking at Ebert's draft position as opposed to his stats and talent. His draft position was a joke to begin with (I took him in Round 2 in our draft?). Work ethic started to come into question in his draft year. Remember when he was a Top 5-10 projected pick?Give me a fucking break.
The pick should be top 5, key word is should. What if Reinhart and Ekblad play like MacKinnon and Myers did in their rookie seasons? McDavid/Eichel/etc. are no guarantees. Hell, this pick isn't a guarantee. I didn't get any sort of Top 3/5 protection.
I'm so sick of the backlash that goes around from people when they miss out on a big trade. "If I can't have it, nobody can".

i'm on the side of shep, chuck and scott.
been saying it all along...nothing wrong with this trade, i personally think scott did well, and if he plays me right could end up with a big return on brown.

Re: Trade: DET/STL
I pretty much think that he shud trade me 2014 1st Car For Cam fowler
Re: Trade: DET/STL
Pretty sure I'll deal the 5th overall pick and Maxim Lapierre for 2015 1st DET.
Re: Trade: DET/STL
that pick certainly has more chances of being #1 than of dropping out of the top 5, the protection is provided by the fact Detroit current lineup still sucks and it seems very unlikely it will improve enough to get out of the bottom along the summer.blues wroteCOLONThe pick should be top 5, key word is should. Basically it should read "The pick should be top 2, key word is should", because yes, ther is a decent chance it wont' be top 2.
Angelo Esposito was also getting consideration to go #1 overall at the start of his draft year. Also keep looking at Ebert's draft position as opposed to his stats and talent. Re: Trade: DET/STL
meh,
too much heat on scott for a deal that he may end up slaughtering long term...there's no real way to judge this deal until the draft has been completed in 2015.

If this is mcdavid/eichel then damn..
Shep has the assets to take the chance though. Scott's gotta hope his team can rise in the standings. I wouldn't have taken the chance if I were him personally but there's still a full season to be played plus a lottery

Check the draft results, I wouldn't have gotten MacKinnon...he went #1. My pick was #2.
