I'm on season 2 episode 3 of Prison Break. After that might try The League or Lost.

Catching anything in the middle of the series is pointless.

My favourite show of all time (excluding sitcom's/cartoons like Seinfeld and the Simpsons). They get rated on a different scale than dramas.

Why did I dislike lost? I am a details guy and if your show points out its own flaws, well I cant buy it. It lost me.

I agree whole heartedly with the fact that you need to start from season one, episode one of any franchise. Even shows like Modern family that have very little character development, still helps to start from the beginning. So obviously a show like lost needs to be watched from the start or it can't be judged fairly. I did started from one, hated the show.

One question Shook, did you watch it on DVD/downloaded over a compressed schedule, or did you watch it over the 6-7 years throughout the TV seasons?

I ask because I have yet to find somebody that downloaded it and watched it say, over 6-8 months to like it. And I have yet to find somebody that grinded through all 6 seasons on TV that didn't love it.

There are 2 things that definitely factor in to the differences.

1) Character development is absolutely crucial with the show. Learning to care for the characters over 6 years vs. 6 months is a completely different story as I'm sure you know from many other shows. If you follow it over years, you learn to care and feel for the characters. Deaths mean something, they feel like real people as opposed to characters on a show, etc.

2) At the beginning of the show they introduced way too many things. Later on (after the writer's strike) they focused on what they felt were the main pieces that needed to be concluded and hoped fans would forget about some of the earlier stuff. Some did, some didn't. Those that are pissed didn't forget, or it was still fresh in their mind due to the quick viewing.

While I agree some stuff was frustrating that it wasn't wrapped up, I feel they did a really good job with it.

One thing I know many people griped on was the Walt being special thing. After the show ended they actually released a 10 or so minute clip that sort of wrapped that part up.

Also, the last 15-20 minutes of the series was somewhat disappointing, but I can look past it because I love the show too much to not like the ending.

Shep - I watched Lost after downloading it over a 4-month period but it is one of my favorite shows ever regardless.

Shook - your points about a quality show are fair. Not everything about Lost is perfect but the reason it reache cult status is because it had so many quality themes, plots and characters.

The best way I describe Lost to people who have never seen it is that it is an experience. More so than almost any show you will ever watch.

I watch so many shows to be entertained. With Lost, every fan I have met says that it was almost a necessity for them to watch the next episode.

Spoiler alert - one thing I hated was that they killed off John Locke. He was one of the best characters on the show.

Btw the first two seasons are amazing as anything that is going on is unexplained.

Is that surprising? I figure if anyone watches a show for six seasons they are doing so because they like it, and not because it was recommended to them, as is often the case with individuals who DL a series.

Was talking about it with a buddy last night, realised I probably look forward to it more than any show except maybe GoT.

Newsroom is enjoyable, but certainly not living up to West Wing for me.

I tried getting into The Wire about 3 times now ... I get through two episodes and am bored to death. I know it picks up, but I don't enjoy cop/detective shows to begin with.

The Wire definitely pays off HUGE dividends once you've given it the first few (4+?) episodes ... ridiculously good.

Significantly enjoyed The League (great for the trash talk essentially), Suits (mindless popcorn and HOLY FUCK IS RACHEL HOT...totally my dream girl), Boardwalk Empire (especially after picking up in the second portion of last season; god damned Margaret story line was a bit slow), and of course BB.

Newsroom was okay, a bit fucking preachy. I will watch the second season though.

House of Cards I really enjoyed for Spacey's monologues (best part of the show IMO).
