Re: LAK - DET
Exact word I used when proposed OEL. I'm happy to negotiate that 26th pick into the mix as well...worked well with what I got in that Gryba deal with Mike. Happened pretty quick but I'm excited about it.
Re: LAK - DET
Lookin good Scott.
And as I said to you Steve, your team is becoming the envy of HR departments everywhere.

keep the roll out going.
Turn 26 into a player upgrade or something. Exciting times for the rebuilders in the BBKL

That 26th pick is definitely a spot I'll probably just hang onto up until we're into the draft. I'd be happy to take a guy but at the point in the round, someone might have a guy they want and I move or for something good. Hard to project who's going to be available at that spot so no need to make quick flip of the pick. I have my fine paid off and I got a great return on my pick...I'm happy to stand pat for now.

i offered spezza straight up for this pick too, but this one was already agreed upon. Looks like steve will get his black guy.
For all the other bottom feeders; this is how you use top draft picks.

Re: LAK - DET
yep - solid piece acquired + another tradable asset.
IMO Scott I would be on the market now. Use the 26th pick to secure one or two solid NHLers who no longer carry 'exciting' name value, but are sure to contribute to your team and play games for the next 5 years. Or to turn a risky piece into a more solid one.
On another front -> those EDM goalies are likely attractive to someone who is about to be cap squeezed and has expensive goalies.

why not making this deal without adding the Gryba pick..Shoalzie wroteCOLONExact word I used when proposed OEL. I'm happy to negotiate that 26th pick into the mix as well...worked well with what I got in that Gryba deal with Mike.

Progression of the deal...
Steve initially offers me:
OEL+ (probably a prospect) for 2nd Overall
Prior to the Gryba deal when I needed a 2nd Rounder:
OEL + 2nd Round (unknown at the time but he eventually got the Toronto pick) + maybe an additional prospect for 2nd Overall
I made the Gryba trade with Mike where I was hoping to get multiple 2nds and then I offered the deal to Steve that we agreed upon. I know wasn't going to get the 26th without giving up another higher pick.
Since I got two 2nds in the Gryba deal, I dangled the higher pick for the possibility of getting back into the 1st round. I wanted to see if I could get that 26th rather than settle for the Toronto 2nd and a prospect and I would've kept the 44th overall. We didn't discuss additional prospects and I wanted to make a move on that 26th pick and the value of the 44th with the 2nd overall matched up.

They were pretty good talks actually, and to be honest OEL was never on the table until bcool tossed out the idea of E. Kane for OEL, it was a deal that was never talked about again, but it got the ball rolling on an OEL for Jones deal.
