Detroit Trading Block: 2nd Overall Pick

Post by Shoalzie »

I'd basically like to trade down to either later in the top 12 plus add additional pieces (picks/prospects/players). If you've got multiple firsts and want to move up, definitely talk to me. I like several players out of this draft class so trading down to get multiple picks is something I'd be interested in. Obviously, I'm thin on NHL talent so active players or NHL-ready prospects are options too. I have a greater need for forwards than defensemen. If the perfect deal isn't there, I'm more than happy with using my pick and adding a quality young player to my team.

I'm not going to ask for specific picks or players in return, I want creative offers that would make the most sense to a rebuilding team.

These are a few pieces I'd consider packaging with the 2nd Overall Pick:
  • 76th Overall / 3rd Rounder (NSH): I'd like to upgrade this pick to either earlier in the 3rd or up into the 2nd round
  • Riley Barber: Capitals prospect; NCAA freshman point-leader this year; member of Team USA in WJC
  • Eric Gryba: I'd have to get an NHL defenseman back if he's involved.
  • Carl Hagelin: I'd want a center comparable or better stats-wise.
  • Tomas Kopecky: Simlar with Hagelin, I'd want a center in the deal with equal or greater salary.
  • Oscar Lindberg: Won the SEL playoff MVP, will start '13-14 in the AHL; my best non-NHL forward
I'm expecting several offers for this pick and I'm wait on making any actual decisions when we're closer to the draft. Any teams interested need to be patient as I sift through the offers to get the best deal. Thanks!

not adding anyone.

there is very little difference between the guys at 4/5 and the guys at 7/8 in this draft. 6 + 7/8 is more than enough for 2.

Keeping and using the pick is all based on if someone else can convince me with an offer that I shouldn't keep it. I have more than a month to figure out if the guy I can take at that spot is worth more than the best offer I'd receive. If I wasn't so thin on assets, trading the pick for multiple pieces wouldn't have been an option. As far as I'm concerned, I'm going to be a better team either way...I just need to figure out if a trade would be more beneficial.

If a trade was to happen, it wouldn't happen until June. I will probably walk this up to the moment I have to pick.
