eheh, one of the reasons i wanted to join a league like this, with 7th rounds drafts, was to prove myself whether my feelings were right or not... that i would draft better than NHL GMs and their scouts :ugeek:

oh, you were probably joking?
you have a huge advantage and disadvantage in being closer to the EU market. It makes you extremely biased (its true don't fight it, we are all biased) but also allows you to watch players that we don't get to see. You will likely end up with a lot of mid round steals that develop into nice players as this league keeps going. If we draft them it is likely on an article we read or a highlight package. Seeing them play is a huge advantage.

I also like drafting but lets face it, we don't have the resources they do. if we draft an obscure late rounder than pans out it is likely luck whereas they had someone who has likely seem him play a lot tell them to draft them.

I think I'm the only hockey fan on earth who actively likes Glenn Healy. I wouldn't want him to run my team or anything, but I enjoy his personality.

For me, when it comes to late rounders, I only go with high risk / high reward players. I never go for that 4th liner lock type players.

I would usually go for boom/bust, but I'll need some future 4th line locks just in case my prospects don't pan out/pan out fast enough.

I'll need to ice some active players.

so my disadvantage is that it makes me biased and the advantage is i can get to see them play whereas you can't?

Interesting, i thought that is what happens for you Canadians.
You can see CHL both live or on TV.. i can't, plus there is the timezone difference that makes N.A. hockey happens over night here.
And living in Italy doesn't give me any advantage over Euro players either, as no players comes out of here lol, and Euro hockey coverage is zero.. nor i fly to Sweden or FInland to attend games...
i watch games through internet just like any of you can do.
Plus, evaluating Euro players u also have to guess how they'll adapt to the smaller rink game (along with a different culture), a question mark that is not there for Canadian Juniors. So relying on Euros is somehow riskier.

If anything, i think the bias thing is actually the advantage, cause Canadians tend to overrate good old Canadians boys (as much or more than i do with Euros, not same nationality in my case) and sometime let others drop... sucks when i like some Canadian player and i know he'll be selected higher than my pick, but may help on others.
I think i've selected more US players than Canadians for that reason, not because i like or know American players better than Canadians.

You will likely end up with a lot of mid round steals that develop into nice players as this league keeps going.
midrounds is where the BBKL already has NHL draft as reference and GMs start looking at the NHL draft positions, so at that time the comparison becomes more vs NHL scouts than BBKL GMs..
I also like drafting but lets face it, we don't have the resources they do. if we draft an obscure late rounder than pans out it is likely luck whereas they had someone who has likely seem him play a lot tell them to draft them.
resources are a good thing if they are 'good' and if you make good use of them.

When you see a guy like Wannstrom picked higher than Jarnkrok, you really start wondering what the hell some of those NHL guys are doing.
It's not like it was me (picked Jarnkrok at 33 vs DET at 51).. anyone watching Brynas play knew the guy to pick high was Jarnkrok, not Wannstrom.

My only reason for saying that is that it is a lot harder to find info on EU players vs Canadian players. It is like if someone watches the NCAA or USHL they would have an advantage on us. Sure we may be able to watch live the CHL but it is also the most scouted league in the world. very few surprises no a days out of the CHL and there are scouting reports for every CHL player available.

It was not meant as an insult although you clearly took it as one lol. I was jealous of the advantage and that was all lol. like you said with the time to watch chl, it doesn't really work for us to live stream SEL games and it is even harder to find places to watch old games, so in turn we rarely watch any EU games. I have not watched a single one since I came home from Europe for example.

I was just commenting on the whole thing not attacking lol.

I'll fully acknowledge that I feel very comfortable drafting NCAA guys...I'm a Michigan fan and I watch as much college hockey as I can. I follow the CHL only as much as I have to. I know of the top prospects but I'm far from having a deep knowledge. At least with what's online, you can do your own research to make you as educated as possible. The information is there if you want to make the effort. Considering I've been in leagues where having knowledge of prospects has been important, I read up on as much as I can. It's not like the NFL or NBA in the states where I can say I've watched the guys being drafted play games in college. I'm going by a lot of second hand accounts and reading stats for these hockey draft prospects.

Dead serious! I don't mind him.

I can't really think of anyone I hate to listen to in hockey media. Cherry? Comical, Leaf homerism helps every once in a while. Watters? Reminds me to monitor my more aged relatives for signs of senility/nosebleeds. Milbury? Gives me hope that someday an asshole like me could run a hockey team.

Wait, I've thought of one I can't stand: the Flyers guy with his cringeworthy tastycakes.

i dont really like the guy on Leafs TV, the guy who looks like he gets off to children, i find that guy impossible.

I personally really like Pierre mcguire, he reminds me of a typical french man, right out to lunch. - he's one of my fav's to listen too

i dont care for my fellow maritimer Doug Complain (McClain), i actually dislike him the most i'd say

McGuire's a yank btw.

Doug's another one I find tough to take... yet I listen to him every afternoon. Ugh he is bad.

Leafs TV guy - is it Millen? I used to mute Sportsnet/LeafsTV games because of him. For some reason he doesn't irk me as much this year.

Millen is unbearable. He and Bowen did something I didn't think could be matched by anyone other than John Garrett, made it through an entire season without having something intelligent to say. Must be great cock suckers to still have jobs.

CBS actually has a pretty terrible cast. Scott Oak? Glenn Healy? Greg Millen? Bob Cole? Horrible, horrible lol

I loved McGuire. yes he is over animated, yes he over reacts but he is very intelligent and shows you things you normally wouldn't see. The little plays and the subtleties of hockey did not go un noticed by him and I enjoyed him pointing them out as you miss them when aren't watching in person. I think you could tell how great he was by how much current nhlers respect him and in turn give him great interviews. TSN should never have let him slip away. They should have paid him what ever it took.

what you wrote is this:
shooker wroteCOLONyou have a huge advantage and disadvantage in being closer to the EU market. It makes you extremely biased (its true don't fight it, we are all biased) but also allows you to watch players that we don't get to see.
and I explained why i think that's wrong on both points (if anything the advantage could be the one you assessed as a disadvantage, my bias being different from BBKL overall bias).
That's not depending on being attacked or not, it is still wrong imo.

It was not meant as an insult although you clearly took it as one lol. I was jealous of the advantage and that was all lol.
it's just that the advantage is not there, or at least is not the one you hinted, as you have the same opportunity to watch and read about euro players as I do.
like you said with the time to watch chl...
but no one is preventing you from watching less CHL and more Euro leagues.. so it's more of a choice, or a habit if you will, not an objctive disadvantage.

I've pulled ahead of Buffalo by 1 game...but we bow to Phoenix for being the low team in GP for this year. Looks like everyone but 3 (Buffalo, Detroit and Phoenix) will reach the minimum.
