As per request, here are the Vegas odds for next year.
Teams expected to OUTPERFORM their ranking on this list are highlighted in GREEN.
Teams expected to UNDERPERFORM their ranking on this list are highlighted in RED.
Teams expected to DRASTICALLY move up/down are BOLDED.
Devils - 3 to 1
Penguins - 4 to 1. No depth may mean no championship.
Capitals - 5 to 1. May actually be the favourite.
Bruins - 5.5 to 1
Kings - 6 to 1. Cap front-loaded with Crosby and Ov with little room to spare for others.
Blues - 7 to 1
Whalers - 8 to 1. One of the most solid cores of periphery stats AND organizational depth.
Sharks - 10 to 1
Flyers - 14 to 1. If even two of his players hit career seasons at once, look out.
Avalanche - 16 to 1. Can Anderson carry his team?
Flames - 19 to 1
Blackhawks 21 to 1
Canucks - 22 to 1
Sabres - 25 to 1
Rangers - 33 to 1
Panthers - 35 to 1
Coyotes 45 to 1. From last place to a borderline playoff team. Book it.
Ducks - 51 to 1
Thrashers - 57 to 1
Wings - 75 to 1
Canadiens - 90 to 1
Wild - 125 to 1. Exemplary rebuild in effect.
Leafs - 135 to 1
Predators - 160 to 1
Hurricanes - 180 to 1
Stars - 260 to 1
Islanders - 275 to 1. Stuck in the toughest division in BBKL.
Blue Jackets - 275 to 1
Lightning - 275 to 1
Oilers - 275

Very well done.
IMO swap sharks with avs & IMO the ducks are again a playoff team... NYR is in tough given the division similar to NYI...
BTW ->
lyers - 14 to 1. If even two of his players hit career seasons at once, look out.

career I read
breakout and 2 truly breaking out would be amazing, however i'll be similarly as happy if none bust. Not exactly sure how the blues rank so high given the goaltending situation and similarly young/risk/boom factor that I represent.
I think the consistency that Ovy & Sid represent might place LAK at better odds, but in red due to impact of injury.

Well if you were in the West nick your odds of winning would be much higher. Simply by being in the East, for your team to win the Championship you would have to face (most likely) 3 out of the Bruins, Caps, Devils, Whalers or Penguins AND ON TOP to win it all face the best of the west i.e. LAK/STL.
The road to the championship in the East is much harder, hence after the best teams in each conference, the western teams were given a much bigger edge. I.e. A teams path to the Cup in the west would be something like Sharks, Kings, Blues, and then one of the teams from the east.
Hence:
STL is rated ahead of HFD AND PHI.
MIN is rated ahead of TOR, CAR, NYI, TBl.
BUF/NYR are rated behind VAN/CHI.
I'm sure some teams could swap spots though. But I think it gives a pretty good picture of how likely a team is to win.

75 to 1 for Detroit is being quite generous imo. He doesn't have a goalie. And I'll go out on a limb and say Oilers = worst team in the league.

It will be a soli battle buddy and whoever wins the week will probably win by the slightest of margains. Good luck winning the goalie stats with Varly & Mason in there

Thankfully we have a goalie GP limit which controls the impact of a 2-starter-system.
If not week 1 then perhaps week 2 the NJD unbeaten streak comes to an end... I think we tied last year.

I agree with this, especially in a
nice division.
Hence: STL is rated ahead of HFD AND PHI.
I think you've under-valued goaltending with this rating, but that's something yourself & other's will have to learn during the course of this season

Well Nick, I figure Mason gets 60ish starts and Varly around 50 so a few weeks I can play both goalies.. strategically! My goalies are my weakest link this season imo but when it comes to forwards and D, I'm up near the top

I'd definitely give me some shitty odds if some things don't happen in free agency. My goaltending is in major trouble if Theo can't find a home and Huet gets chucked to the minors by the Blackhawks. I think a lot of these free agent questions will probably be answered as we get closer to September.

It was about the first 2/3s of the season where goaltending was losing me weeks.
Luckily this season it should just get me to break even in that category more often than not.

LOL hard to insult my team more then that hey? Really polite.

Defensive system of the blues switched to open system of the Thrashers + Pavelec factor... I cannot see Mason matching last season.
