BBKL GM Vote (Yes or No): Adding PPTOI from 2014/2015
PostedCOLON Wed Aug 21, 2013 12:57 am
Hi all - as you know we've been discussing improving our categories in the Ryan Suter thread. I wanted to do an informal vote here to see where the league stands. I've summarized the discussion below in as unbiased a manner as possible.
Please post in this thread with either a Yes or No for such a change.
Note: Such a change will not occur till the 2014/2015 BBKL Season and is still subject to CC review regardless of this vote
Topic (up for debate/asked to be addressed)
Finesse players (i.e. players that do not strongly hit our current periphery stats - PIMS, Hits, SHTOI, Blocks) are currently undervalued particularly because their cap hits are very high compared to cheaper d-men who get peripheries more but fewer points. For example, Josh Gorges vs Andrei Markov at present is a win for Gorges as the cats are split evenly but Gorges is much cheaper.
Players in this category include:
Top PP D-Men - E.g. Ryan Suter, Dan Boyle, Mark Streit
Finesse Forwards - E.g. Patrick Kane, Daniel Sedin, Thomas Vanek
Proposed Solution - Add Powerplay Time On Ice (PPTOI)
PPTOI is the counterpoint to SHTOI. Just like SHTOI rewards grinders, PPTOI rewards top 6 forwards and top 6 d-men, who tend to see the most time in the category
Arguments For PPTOI
1.Because of the number of categories we have, finesse players (whose fantasy production is dependent on offence) are undervalued since we have a large number of categories that can be won without offence
2. PPTOI gives the edge to the best players in the NHL in BBKL and recognizes them for their ability to help a team win more in the real world
3. It increases the value of finesse players such as Patrick Kane/Ryan Suter despite their large cap hits
4. It creates a periphery associated with offensive players and creates a linked chain similar to the way SHTOI links with Blocks, Hits and PIMS for periph specialists
Arguments Against PPTOI
1. GMs have built teams around the current scoring system and this would skew certain players values
2. Some trades will look worse in retrospect with the change to player values
3. Some already very good players will have their values improved even further (e.g. Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews)
List of Top PPTOI Producers Last Season
Below is a list of the leaders in the category last year to give an idea that PPTOI can make a very positive impact on our league. Also notice how a lot of players are currently on the rosters of the bottom half of the league.
Please post in this thread with either a Yes or No for such a change.
Note: Such a change will not occur till the 2014/2015 BBKL Season and is still subject to CC review regardless of this vote
