New Divisions - Pacific, Central, Atlantic, Metropolitan?

I think this deserves its own thread. The more i think about this the worse it gets. Nhl gets a big fail, imo. Way more teams from the former atlantic that are actually closer to the Atlantic. Why throw in a weird fucking name like Metropolitan when you have 3 Geographical based names already? Why not use East, like you know Eastern time zone, like Pacific, central, Atlantic....etc. I dont know. I just think that is such a gay sounding name. Id even rather them go back to the old Patrick, Adams....etc thoughts?

The Philadelphia/New York/Washington division should've been the Atlantic...the Boston/Montreal/Toronto/Detroit division is such a mixed bag that you can't really put it under geographic name. That's why I thought it would make sense to use names for their divisions. When I think of Montreal, Ottawa, Boston, Buffalo...I think Adams Division. The 4 old divisions had enough old members where you could've plugged the old names back in and it would make the most sense.

i wonder which teams are the early favourites to make the playoffs now based on the new format. Seems it's harder to make it in the eastern conference coz there's more teams?

The West lost its conference champ...that's quite a large opening for another Western team to step up. Anton is back to being an elite team so perhaps he's grabbed that spot already and there are several up and coming teams in the Pacific.

With the way the playoffs are set up, you can't have more than 5 from a single division make the playoffs...a quality team out of the new Atlantic is going miss the playoffs simply because there aren't enough spots.

Exactly like the NHL. 8 & 8. no more than 5 from any one division.

Top 3 from each division are guaranteed...the other two spots can from either division. Hence, the max of 5 spots from one division but also, no less than 3.

I assume it's still the traditional 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5. Division winners get 1 and 2?

Oct 1st start, April 13th end, = 29 weeks - 3 weeks olympic = 26 week NHL season.

BBKL considerations -> 2 week final + 3 rounds = 5 weeks for playoffs, resulting in a 21 week regular season.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8; The Metropolitan is made up of the Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets.

8; The Atlantic has the Maple Leafs, Canadiens, Senators, Sabres, Red Wings, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning

------------------------------- Each eastern conference division has 8 teams, if they play their conference = 15 games with 6 others.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7 ;The Pacific has the Canucks, Flames, Oilers, Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, Phoenix Coyotes and Anaheim Ducks.

7 ; The Central has the Jets, Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues.

------------------------------- Each western conference division has 7 teams, if they play their conference = 13 games with 8 others.

How should I structure it?

I am comfortable randomizing it or following a pattern, or no out-of-conference. thoughts? because of even teams in each conference it's easier to structure.

Maybe keep everything in-conference and play most of your divisional teams twice?
