I'm pretty sure that is the worst possible route that you could take.

I was able to take the whole path out but all it leaves is white space.

Won't be home for a bit but I think I didn't save because I got annoyed. Ill try again when I get home.

If you want to try it, here is what I did:

Increase saturation a lot but not all the way
Increase contrast a lot, decrease brightness if you have to
Then at the top in the file menu, go to Select > Colour range. Here select the eyesdropper tool with a plus sign and select all the colors in the pic you want to remove. Click okay.
Then press delete.
