In the real NHL, I like it...it will be interesting for us. Going into the same division as Boston, Toronto, Tampa Bay, Ottawa, Montreal...and only 4 (or 5) make the playoffs? Ouch. The "Mid-West" is pretty damn good from a BBKL standpoint with Minnesota shifting over. We'd be pretty well balanced but to me, the "Central" would be the most top-heavy.

The wild card would be difficult to do in a weekly league unless we do almost a triple threat match with the 1, 4 & 5 at the same time...play 4-5 and the winner puts their stats against the #1 seed in the same week. Or you just don't do the wild card and stick with 1-4 in each division/conference.

This explains it all quite easily.
The playoff format calls for the top three teams in each division to earn post-season berths. The remaining four spots would go to wild-card teams, the top two records remaining in each conference. That means there's a possibility five teams make it from one division and only three from another.

It would be divisional playoffs, not conference playoffs, so 1 vs. 4, 2 vs 3 in the first round. The two fourth seeds would be made up of the wild-card teams. The top division winner based on regular-season points in the standings would face off against the lower-ranked wild-card team. The other division winner would play the higher-ranked wild-card

I dislike the fact that the East has two more teams, and thus a much worse chance at the playoffs. I liked the 4 conference proposal alot more, this just seems unnecessarily difficult.

Has this actually been approved by the NHL/PA? or is it still speculation?

Well, everyone's team is bound for a rise or fall...but yeah, that's a tough division to walk into. Eventually, I'll be able to compete with you guys...

What is the league going to do to account for the fact that the East has 16 teams vs 14 in the West? It would be lame if they did nothing.

I don't get why there is a 16 team conference and a 14 team conference, why not move Columbus to the Mid West?

Oh...I was thinking the wild card would be where an extra team in the 8 team divisions got an extra bid and they had a play-in to play #1. I guess I should actually read the article. ;)

Columbus has a more natural fit with the Pennsylvania teams (rust belt rivals) and they'd stay in the same conference with the Wings. Bottom line, they wanted to get all 16 of the Eastern time zone teams into one half. It's unbalanced right now but there's always expansion that can shake things up.
