+/-,Hong's wild lead the category at a riduclous +38, after that it's an eastern conference stat w/TOR(28), NJD(25), NYR (19) & TBL (18)

Scoring:
Goals: TBL (62), followed closely by MIN (59), PIT(57), TOR(55) & LAK(49) - 30th is Det (16), 4 teams @ 20 or less.

Assists: TBL(101), with NSH entering the fray @ #2 (95), TOR, LAK & NJD.

Points: TBL (163), TOR(149), LAK(139) MIN-PIT-NSH tied (133).

Game winners: WSH, NJD & TBL tied @ 10.

Special teams: TBL(60), WSH(55), PIT tied w/ TOR(51) and STL(45), 3 teams under 10.

Shots on goal: predictable list, and a big gap to the next 5, TBL(553), LAK, TOR, MIN & PIT(522) than a gap close 50 to STL(479).

Peripheries:

Blocked shots: TOR (264), followed in a tight top 5 by CBJ, MIN, BOS NYR(246) same gap from 1-5 from 5-6; PHX is #30 @ 82 (not paying the price to win).

Hits: Boston.

Penalty minutes: CBJ (306), NYI (285) clearly lead the way, but NYR, BOS PIT & COL are goon filled as well. Sunrise state is a bunch of sissies at only team under 100.

W: CHI (12)!!!!, PHI (11), BUF-MTL-NSH tied @ 10.

SO: BUF, STL & WSH @ 3, over 1/3 the league still with none.

Obviously these numbers will move around a ton in the next 34 or so games, but we're coming up on the 1/2 way of the BBKL season, 1/3 of the NHL season - so it really is a sprint to the finish.

My earlier and shorter week 3 breakdown of team performances and characteristics:

Steve & Mike are showing the power of depth and roster diversity; 182 GP each, that's 60 more then the bottom teams (119/120) - closest correlating stat to GP show the importance of an active roster, as they are tired for 1st in SOG as well (373). CGY, MIN PIT & CBJ right near the top.

Riding their keepers, Anton & Lee benefiting from team wins, meanwhile FLA (Chris), NYI (Tony) & MIN (Hong) - are at or near the top of each goaltending save-based category.

In the scoring categories there is one prevalent trend: (MY) tampa bay lightning, G(1), A(2),Pts(1), SOG(3), Stpts(2), GWG (4), Mike's leafs are right there across the board as well, continuing down that trend, a majority of the heavy scoring is in the east (4 of 5).

On the non-scoring skater statistics we see much more diversity. SHTOI is led by CBJ, SJS, NYI, PIT + NJD/MIN , some similarity to the Hits list with BOS, CBJ, PIT, NYI & NYR. FOW is TBL & TOR by some margin early in the year. The randomness that is +/- spread equalling between conferences: MIN, NJD, TBL, NSH & TOR.

Week 6 Team Total notes:

This week we’ll begin with goalies. The story to date has really been Anton’s Chicago tandem, reliable, consistent and exceedingly eny worthy. Injured, down early, nothing matters; they do not know what a loss looks like – averaging 3 wins a week, for 15 on the year. This also adds up to the best GAA (1.73) followed closely by FLA & WSH (tied at 1.77). Not surprising but SV% presents the same 3 teams (FLA, WSH & CHI) with WPG &BUF also benefiting from nice averages – and this is a great picture for goaltending on the year, SV% is a slow moving stat. WSH, BUF, STL & MTL all tied with 3 Shutouts, almost 30% of the league, TOR, PIT, WPG, DET, OTT, COL, EDM, ANA & PHX with zero.

Games played is always an interesting stat, no one denies it’s importance, and is one of very few categories most of the top team share. TOR & LAK share the lead @ 315, PIT, CGY & MIN all above 312. Taking a glance at the peripheries, Penalty kill time on ice is still a one-team category, CBJ (733), with a lead in excess of 100min, followed by a big group above 500minutes. Similarly Hits belong solely to Kyle’s Bruins (55) with a lead near 100 on Kyle #2 and his Rangers (469)- CBJ, NYI, PIT, LAK & CGY complete the other teams over 400 – Lee’s Queens, ahem, Flyers are the softest teams by over 60 hits with 182 on the year. The current BBKL good squad, CBJ show up again at, or near, the top of another periphery stat, PIMS with 350, only NYI come close @ 313, NYR a distant 3rd with 283. Incase you missed the trent, CBJ is the top consistent 'defensive' BBKL team.

Assists are lead by TBL (119) w/o 6 other teams above 100 (in reverse order, NJD, PIT, LAK, STL, TOR and NSH @ #2). Special team points finds a similar looking list, once again led by TBL (72) w/ WSH & PIT tied for 2nd (61).

To finish let’s paint the picture for current #1 in the BBKL, Hong’s Minnesota Wild; we haven’t seen the team listed amongst the top of any of the previous categories, so how is he the top? To start let’s examine the most inconsistent and unreliable category, +/-, he’s made it his own. +57 a lead of +26 on the 2nd strongest goal differential team, Berg’s NJD, closely followed by Mike (+25) & Billy(+24). PHI, EDM & CBJ have been able to dive deep into the negatives @ -28 or worse. Moving to Blocked shots we’ll find MIN @ #3 (304), just behind Mike (328)& Bryma (332). Once the most under-valued aspect of the game, and perhaps now the most expensive BBKL stat, face off wins - the Wild sit #3 (782) in the BBKL following only Mike (867) and the Lightning (971). Min is also near the top tied for 4th in GWG, OTT (14) leads the category. Goals & Points will find ‘sota amongst the top, #2 in putting the puck into the back of the net behind only TBL(76) with a tight lead on PIT (64) and TOR (62). Points find Hong in 3rd – trailing Mike (167) and myself (195), with a slight lead on PIT (165) and STL (161). Finally, perhaps the most reliable and consistent BBKL stat, Shots on Goal, the Wild sit near the top @ #5. SOG is lead by TBL (674) with TOR, LAK & PIT completing the link to MIN. So although not dominating the stats like he is the league rank, it's not undeserved.

One final comment, this is the half way stats, so if you don't believe they are real, nothing will suggest different to you.

Great writeup Nick. I am quite fearful facing Columbus. I would love to see some schedule analysis if possible. Last week I had losing records to only Toronto and Minnesota yet sit at 5th in east with tough opponents ahead. My schedule is insane...

Really nice read and thanks for having a summary on my team. Have to admit I put a lot of effort in putting a team to top most of the stats in the league.. but im very lucky that im still at the top coz with my injury and some players have slow down.. i don't see my team to stay at the top the whole time this year honestly

I dont stand a chance against you in periphs. Our goaltending matchup is a tossup. Offense, i should have an advantage but my guys are old and cold....so ive been told by many people.

You have me with Hits..especially since Dubinsky is out. I definitely need to win the goalie matchup for me to pull out a W this week. I think its more likely for you to squeak out a win even if you don't win the goalie matchup....should be a good matchup either way though!

Trade Deadline Edition of BBKL YDT Team Statistics:
Let’s start with the inconsistent +/-, which is owned by a single team (would be interesting to hear from him if this was a planned focus or a pleasant surprise) Mike’s Maple Leafs are a massive +76, almost double Shiv & Hong who are tied @ +40.Arian brings up the rear @ -55; of note Steve’s LAK are a miserable -3 and my lightning a -26. This is a perplexing category for many, because many of the lower ranked teams, have won this category. Truly a toss-up any given week (and important category for the BBKL random factor) would be quite the storyline if LAK won the BBKL Stanley Cup by having a better +/- than Mike in the finals.

Moving onto the dman dominated statistics, the same name is again at the top, TOR leads the way at blocking shots w/ 569, followed closely by CBJ, CGY & BOS all over 500, once again Matt’s Coyotes don’t pay the price to win, accidentally blocking 189 shots. Short handed time on ice (a measure we use of defensive awareness, skill & commitment) has been owned all year by Bryma’s Blue Jackets’, with almost 20 hours played, Berg, Shiv & KyleG represent one tier down with over 15hours each. A true translation from the life big bad bruins is Old Man Kyle’s BBKL Bruins, as the first team to 1K hits, LAK, NYR & CBJ each over 100 behind at 820-861. Lee’s pansy Flyers do not mirror the broad street bullies with just 368 hits on the year.

Beginning to transfer into categories Wingers tend to influence heavily, Penalty minutes are led by Tony from the Bronx, with Bryma & KyleG being the only teams within 101. Mik’s European version of the Predators play a sportsmanlike game as the only BBKL team under 200 – fitting I think. Shots that require a save or hit the back of the net is led by Tampa @ 1170, closely followed by Mike’s Leafs (1101) Shep (1072), Shiv (1069) – Min, LAK, & BOS all >1K. Phion’s Sabers must be hemmed in their own zone, with just 433. Looking at special team points we find one team above all the rest, TBL with 118, no other teams in triple digits – PIT knocking on the door, just 1 shy. Phion & Scott need to work on their odd-man play, each with just with 17 STPTS.

Focusing on forward dominated offensive scoring, we once again find Tampa with a sizeable lead in points (340) with the Penguins (308) being the only other team above 300, 8 teams between 250-300 (TOR, MIN, LAK, STL, WSH, BOS, NJD & OTT). Goals & Assists the story remains the same, TBL for goals followed by PIT, MIN+OTT, WSH, BOS & TOR, and for assists a real gap from 214 leader to 189 (TOR) , (187) PIT + LAK. Phion, Scot & Paul bringing up the low end of assists, goals and points. Despite scoring 14 fewer goals, Billy’s senators find themselves leading in GWG @ 24, Scott’s Red Wings w/ just 4.
The single position categories have been very consistent throughout the season. FOW see’s TBL & TOR in a league alone (1500+) while Luke’s Jets barely break 200 @ 217, three teams under 300. GAA is still led be FLA Chris, although a lack of GP due to injury are minimizing the impact of dominance in this category, for the 4th straight season Kyle’s Bruins have been able to count on steady tending, tied for 2nd in GAA @ 2.02 (with Anton). Save pecentage is the same trio, Chris (.938) followed closely by Kyle (.925) & Anton (.922), Kareem and Aidan also above the .920 mark. Goalie wins find a change – Lee’s team atop the standing @ 25, Anton, Kyle & Chuck wrap up the group over 20 – Hong with just 7 W on the year. Thom has found 5 shutouts on the season, Josh, Berg & Shep each with 4. Shook, Matt, Arian and Shiv have yet to put a zero up on the board. Worth a laugh when it happens, Paul, Shiv & Billy each have 3 points from their goalies, Shiv with the lone goal – too bad it wasn’t a game winner!

An interesting comparison:

Leading the way are 4 teams with an 8-1-0 record, PIT, LAK, MIN & TBL. Only Scott’s Red Wings have yet to win a week (0-9-0). We’d see s very tight race for the playoffs, especially in the east with 4 teams tied at 4-5-0 (OTT, MTL & PHI).
The real difference would be Nashville in the west, @ 7-2-0 his current 7 seat is not very representative, and NJD in the east, @ 3-5-1 would likely find himself on the outside of the playoffs instead of the 8 spot with a 4 point lead on 9th. On a whole it would be a much more interesting playoff race for the middle 5 teams, with the extremities more solidified.
