What are we going to do about the NHL Entry Draft if the lockout lasts all season? Are we going to use last years ranking, go at random order, project who would've finished where, or copy the NHL's system? I'm sure I'm not the only GM who has a lot banked in on picks for this draft and would like to know what's going on.

But can BBKL really afford to do it equivalent to NHL as the gap between bottom and top teams on BBKL is so much more severe than the NHL? I mean I could go as far as saying my entire bbkl team relies on my picks in this coming entry draft.

i'd just go with the same order we had this year, im with Pete on this one, big difference between some of the teams in the bbkl, the bottom teams really need those high 1st rd picks.

it's not like this would make it somehow fair; just think of Buffalo and Philadelphia:
Phion acquired his pick to tank and make it a top 5 selection, would be stuck at #17 instead.
Lee would pick at #4 twice thanks to his tanking last season, despite having now a more competitive team...

Draft lottery like the NHL is my thinking

We should run a sim or have some sort of consensus vote on what the rankings would be, the gap in bbkl is far to large to go for the 3 balls 2 balls 1 ball type draft. I'm sure it would be funner for the majority of teams involved, but its takes away the most valuable assets for the bottom teams. Building my team would lose purpose if I got scheisted on my picks, and Im sure theres a couple other gms who feel close to the same way.

Fuck this goddamn lockout. Whoever owns my pick is lucky cause u might get a lottery pick since i havent made the playoffs yet. Especially funny cause my team isnt lottery worthy this year lol.

Fwiw i agree with what pete is saying.

My take is nobody here should be rewarded or punished by this lockout but the CC should be the judge of that.

Perhaps be some sort of sim/ranking system we can agree on because I think some teams vastly changed over the summer

Yes this.
It will be fucked up for the REAL NHL pitts to get mckinnon.. but if there are the odds for this to happen in the nhl, then why not our BBKL too. I think people should take into consideration the lockout too when trading picks, just like the real nhl. Having said that, the lower tier teams still gets the better odds

I would be vehemently against any draft lottery system that subjectively ranks some teams over others, regardless of the reasons. The BBKL has always run it's lottery system like the real NHL, there is no reason to change now.

I will be genuinely shocked if the NHL and NHLPA cancel a full season over the allocation of a few percentages of HRR.

Cancel our draft, and anybody drafted in 2013 is exempt from BBKL forever.
