Let's hope there's a season talk 1: the Calder

I'm sick of talking about the NHL/PA negations. Let's talk about what we think will happen when there is a season?

I'm going to toss a poll up of the top 10 most likely names to get thrown around, toss in a vote if one of the 9 is your pick, or "other" if you disagree with the options and feel someone else has a better shot.

Had to chose the top 9, and because dmen barely ever win the award I've chose to leave some of the notables off:
Bredan Smith, Dougie Hamilton, Brandon Gormley, Ryan Murrary, in addition to Alex Galchenyuk, Nyquist, Jaden Schwartz & Emmerson Etem not on list. Oh an no Charlie Coyle, Jonas Brodin, Mark Scheifele or Ryan Strome (nor are some other top 15 picks who could make their teams with less hype, remember this is pre-pre-season guessing).

Please only pick 'other' if you feel very strongly over someone on this list.

Tarasenko.

I dont care that st louis is deep. Hitchcock has already said he will be seeing time in the top 9 because he is a highly skilled player who has proven thst he deserves to be playing with skilled players. TOI wont be an issue IMO and even if it is, he has MORE than proven hr can be a legitimate threat playing about 10 min a night (see khl playoffs)

My pick was Nail Yakupov because of the quality of linemates, and opportunity he is going to get right off the bat, but I also feel strongly about Mark Stone as a darkhorse candidate for the Senators.

I doubt Stone sees significant time this year myself, but never know. I voted Sven but truthfully looks like an unreal crop and choosing anyone was difficult.

I think Yakupov can come in and be prolific right away, 60+ points for him this year imo
but I agree with what Josh said this year, I feel like there is close to 20 guys who could be calder nominees this year if the dominoes were to fall their way..

I think he is going to get some much needed development time in the AHL for about a month, and stay up with the Senators for the rest of the season, and the way the lockout is going he may be able to do the former without missing any NHL regulaur season games.

I'll take Kreider because IMO he's over-developed. Supposedly weighing in over 220lbs, fast, physical goal scorer. Looks like a lock of top 6 behind a very nice fist line - that's a great situation IMO. Oh also looked very good during his NHL playoff games.

A huge fan of his on draft day, became a bigger fan when I saw him live in Sask, and wish I kept him.

Gaborik - Richards - Nash
Kreider - Stepan - Callahan

Damn you NYR.

The fact that I'm the first one to vote for Huberdeau is fucked up.

Oh the mighty JVR, he with the foretold career high of 40 points in every professional league he's ever played in, will lead us to salvation.
