It's a god damn shame that Pat Burns still isn't in. But congrats to those guys.

Cannot believe Shanahan didn't get it.
The selection committee not electing Burns when it was clear he wasn't going to make it through the final year of his life was a joke. He's been a lock since he was first eligible, and he should have been able to enjoy being elected.

I'm pissed about Shanny but he'll get in eventually...maybe next year. It would be great if he cut a promo in the middle of a suspension video in response.
Quite a day for Oates...head coaching gig and the Hall of Fame.
Sundin and Bure...two of the great European hockey players of all time. Would've loved to see more of Bure if not for injuries. Sundin was as steady as they come...almost made me wonder why he got in over Shanahan though without the 3 titles.

Im shocked shanny didnt get in too... 600+ Goals... Come on.
Never thought bure would get in. Destroyed two teams and was a dick to the media, but he was one of the most exciting players to watch in his era. Guess that has to count for something.

Lol. I was thinking the Shanny over Sundin thing as well. Wasn't going to say it in this league but glad someone did lol.

If Neely didn't get in for his abbreviated career, I would've thought Bure might get left out and probably Lindros too. Bure scored 42 more goals than Neely in about 24 fewer games. Lindros played the most games of the three but did end up with more points and won an MVP...all three guys made the finals but didn't win a cup. To me, I have to believe Lindros has to be considered for the Hall under that criteria.
Probably same with Sundin...Bure shouldn't have gotten in before Shanahan though. If he has to wait more than another year to get in, that's a crime.
Forsberg played also fewer than 800 games (only 708) but has an MVP and two Stanley Cups plus an iconic international goal (sorry Canada). He was a 1.25 PPG player compared 1.14 for Lindros, 1.11 for Bure and Neely was under a point per game. He's the best of those 4 guys whose careers were cut short due to injury...he'll get in his first year of eligibility for sure.

Hey, I don't hide the fact I love the Red Wings here...Shanny was my favorite Wing while he was in Detroit. My fiance got me a signed Shanny puck for my birthday this year.
That being said, I'm not ashamed as a Wings fan to say Sundin was one of my favorite players during his career. He and Forsberg were guys on enemy teams that I admired greatly.

Just want to say to the Sundin Haters, which obviously there are only a few on these forums. It's the Hockey Hall of Fame, not NHL only. Sundin Captained his country to Olympic Gold and is the leading point getter among all Swedes all time.
- Averaged over a Point a Game
- From 95-06 he was 4th in total scoring (behind Selanne, Jagr and Sakic all likely first ballot hall of famers)
- Lead his team in scoring almost every season by a large margin despite having horrific wingers most of his career
- Played over 1300 NHL games, was a Captain of an Original Six team for many of them
- Olympic Gold - Captain of team
- If I remember correctly first european to ever be selected First Overall
His history goes back further than just the Leafs, he was amazing for Sweden and in Quebec. He's been a steady producer throughout his entire career, despite often poor teams with little support. To me even if he had accomplished that in the dreaded Blue Blanc and Rouge he'd still be a hall of famer. I Agree Shanny should of been a first balloter and that Bure shouldn't of gotten in.
I'll never understand the Burns snub though.

Ditto that Tony, as a kid my room was covered in Sakic stuff, pucks, sticks, posters, got three or four of his rookie cards as well.
As a Sens fan, I can honestly say I hate Sundin. That being said, he deserved to get in, Adam Oates is actually the player who I have the biggest issues with getting in myself. Bure was absolutely dominant while he was healthy, Sundin is the leading points getter in Swedish hockey history, Joe Sakic is 9th all time in scoring, Oates is a great player for sure but I just don't see HOF type numbers really. Especially over Burns, Shanny etc.

People forget that International accomplishments are a large factor. Hence Hockey Hall of Fame, not NHL Hall of Fame. And Sundin was one of the best in terms of his International accomplishments.

Like Josh, I too had the Sakic poster(s) ... I still remember my "No Ordinary Joe" one - lol
As a Sharks fan, I was still a huge fan of those first few Avs teams ... I cheered for them just as much as my own team. I had Avs stuff everywhere (along with Sharks of course).

One of my most memorable goals of all-time. Sakic and Yzerman passing the puck to each other before they fed it to Iginla who scored in the gold medal game. And Bob Cole's (who should also be in the HHOF one day) saying "Here's Yzerman to Joe Sakic - what about this duo - to IGINLA!" And then Sakic scored the 5th goal to put it away and Wayne Gretzky's going nuts.
We were really fortunate to watch hockey in a time where Sakic, Yzerman, Sundin, Lemieux, Jagr, Lidstrom, Niedermayer, Pronger, Brodeur, Hasek all played.
Crosby, Toews etc are all terrific. But I think the fact that I grew up with the former group while watching them play makes them pretty much untouchable regardless of what this group does.
