Steve and Shiv rape, not really sure what Chuck was thinking...He may have gotten the two worst players in this deal.

The best player in the deal is Wideman

Yeah...No. In real life hs is quite easily the worst defenceman, and Washington is openly trying to get rid of him, not to mention that the addition of Mike Green has limited his role.

+1. Wideman has got to be the quietest All-Star ever. He has 40 points on D already with phenomenal periphs.

Love it for Steve, okay Dman having a great season traded for an awesome dman having a mediocre season, upside, situation, and future all in Burn's favour. LAK gets better and doesn't pay to do it.
To Montreal
Gives Up: Mike Ribeiro + Erik Johnson

Matt Cullen
Dennis Wideman
I do not like the trade for Chuck, Ribeiro is a very good player and very valuable h2h since returning to full-time C, under-rated h2h IMO. EJ has failed to reach expected level of performance, but is still a #1 Dman. Wide<->EJ is a tough call for me, but potential, cap plus (once again) situation, I'd value EJ higher. Were Chuck making a playoff drive, I'd understand the acquisition of Wideman, as he's having a good season this year. Cullen is the least interest piece in this deal, but once again is of more value to a team destined for the playoffs this year, rather then a team that has missed the post-season. Hmmm, head shaker for me :(
To Pittsburgh
Gives Up: Matt Cullen + Brent Burns

Mike Ribeiro
Erik Johnson
What looks like even steven here ( BB > EJ around the same amount that MR> MC) is actually a win for Shiv. As the gap to Ribby is bigger then the gap to EJ, IMO. I've described all these players elsewhere, but I think BB, EJ and Ribby will all at very least continue their production this season, and potentially improve. 2 of 3 'desirable' pieces going his way with only 1 going out, good contracts (although Shiv has been said that no good team would win with Ribby/going into playoffs/etc), this is a win for Shiv, although not a home run.

Net impression of the deal: Easy yes for Steve, out-of-foucs move for Chuck (would think he was making a playoff push), and a win for Shiv. Not a terrible deal by any party, but as shown in his breakdown I breakdown, I think it was good for one party, easy for another, and less then good for one.

Just my opinion.
