Australia in a nutshell...
Re: Australia in a nutshell...
from his wiki:
His academic achievements were complemented by setting a new world speed record for beer drinking: he downed 2 1/2 pints - equivalent to a yard of ale - from a sconce pot in eleven seconds as part of a college penalty.[14][15] In his memoirs, Hawke suggested that this single feat may have contributed to his political success more than any other, by endearing him to a voting population with a strong beer culture.
Re: Australia in a nutshell...
new campaign idea. Best part, it'll probably work on the island.
Re: Australia in a nutshell...

Re: Australia in a nutshell...
It will be a sad day if a riding in one of the Canadian cities and provinces is positively influenced by alcohol consumption, nevermind the presidency...
Re: Australia in a nutshell...
No it would probably be more reflective of reality (the people) when compared to the phony jerk-offs we have mismanaging our money and resources.

Re: Australia in a nutshell...
So the divide between what is real and genuine and that which is fake and phony is alcohol consumption?mr. bruin wroteCOLONNo it would probably be more reflective of reality (the people) when compared to the phony jerk-offs we have mismanaging our money and resources.
FTR, the above president may in fact be a terrific leader with a great campaign, I don't know, it's the fact that he attributed the most of his success to drinking beer that irks me. It should be a leaders campaign, charisma and values that drive success, not how much alcohol he can consume, and as I stated above it will be a sad day if the former ever takes precedence over the latter in Canada.
Re: Australia in a nutshell...
I think that him attributing that skill may be taken out of context. He clearly stated that his skill of drinking legal beer fast endeared himself to a beer loving people. You know, establish something in common with the masses!!!

It is possible the comment was taken out of context. The second point you made is what I take issue with, are people so simple that the mere act of consuming alcohol is endearing?
Re: Australia in a nutshell...
In general, I think we can assume the majority of most folk are pretty simple. Sad but true fact I feel.
Re: Australia in a nutshell...
It shows that he's a human being... wanting to relate to elected officials through cultural commonalities makes one simple?MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONIt is possible the comment was taken out of context. It's amazing the shit you people can find to argue about on here.
Re: Australia in a nutshell...
Nothing wrong with fitting in and showing despite your position that you can have a good time. Gotta remember many people cannot be bothered to learn the real difference between the leaders/parties - more a question of 'who is more like me'.

Re: Australia in a nutshell...
Drinking alcohol shows he is a human being, are you fucking kidding me Mike? Furthermore, drinking alcohol is not a cultural commonality, it is something that people do, it is no more a cultural commonality than eating food and taking a shit.

As in not just a suit/academic/politician...but someone you would actually want to 'have a beer with'.

Re: Australia in a nutshell...
The simple action of drinking a beer means all of that to you? What if a politician doesn't drink, is he just a "suit/academic/politician"?Nick wroteCOLONMSP4LYFE wroteCOLONDrinking alcohol shows he is a human being, are you fucking kidding me Mike?

Also, I understood what Mike said, but thank you for the clarification anyways.
Re: Australia in a nutshell...
It's no different then finding out he's a leaf fan, smokes the same type of cigars, watches the Simpson's, has a sense of humour... it's that he's a real person. Nice trolling attempt... but this is currently somewhere between incompetency and ignorance.

Re: Australia in a nutshell...
I wouldn't elect a president for any of those reasons, they are irrelevant to his or her position, and none of those things demonstrate that "X" is a real person, merely that "X" smokes the same type of cigars, watches the Simpsons, and has a sense of humor. These are common characteristics and interests, and nothing more, and I don't need to see them publicly to know that they exist.
Re: Australia in a nutshell...
Having a connection with the person you vote for is the most important thing, is it not?
Oh, and does everything anyone says on this forum have to turn in to an argument?
