BBKL ILLUSTRATED // The Good, The Bad and The Delusional

The Good

Remember when Michael Jordan retired at the end of the 1993 season after winning 3 Championships? Then he came back in 1995-1996 and won 3 more? Who won in the two years in between? Hakeem Olajuwon and the Houston Rockets.

Maybe it’s just a coincidence that Hakeem and Kareem sound similar.

Enter Washington Capitals. For the first time in BBKL history, the New Jersey Devils are not Cup favourites. That can only be good news. GM Kareem has done a fantastic job. The shiniest feather in his cap has been his ability to not be trigger happy in a time when his team is dominating.

There also seems to be another chapter in the works of the Washington-Tampa Bay rivalry. Divisional/Conference favourites and the battle is wicked fun to watch given the amount of talent on both of their teams.

Out west, the Los Angeles Kings remain the cream of the crop. No one can beat this team as of now in that conference. But the Chicago Blackhawks are creating a buzz. HockeyGFx founder, Anton, has transformed the team in the last 3 weeks in an effort to close the gap between the Hawks and the Kings. Still a lot of work to be done though.

The surprise in this conference may actually come from the team that did not have a GM for the first half of the BBKL season. But former Sharks GM and Penguins Assistant GM, Neel Shah, has taken over and this team is literally a few moves away from being a major threat to win the BBKL Stanley Cup. Will GM Neel engrave Bry Shook’s name on the Cup if it happens?

The Bad

This week saw yet another GM quitting because of league issues/disputes. These occurrences have gone down in number since the league’s inception but haven’t really disappeared.

GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER BBKL.

We come here to have fun. Because this is an incredible outlet for our common hockey appetite. Don’t let stupid fantasy arguments destroy that very real objective.

The Delusional

Other than maybe 3 teams in BBKL, every team seems to be competing. So I'll just come right out and say it.

Hey EDM, NYI, NYR, BUF, CAR, FLA and others: There is no fucking way any of you are going to win.

So:

1) Stop trying to make the playoffs.
2) Stop claiming you only want to upgrade.
3) Stop trading away your young talent for old fucks who won’t help you win.

BBKL is a place where 6-8 teams have a shot at winning. The rest are just along for the ride.

That's all for now folks.

1) All I have said I would be trying to do from the very start of the season was contend for the 8th playoff spot in the east. As far as I am concerned I am still in it.

2) In the past 3 months I have shopped 2 players. Bozak for a couple of days and Vanek for ONE DAY. With Vanek I wanted a lateral move but everyone, for the most part, wanted to offer me SHIT (some of the offers were actually insulting) so I took no deals. Bozak I said I wanted a player who is not performing as well as Bozak CURRENTLY is, but might have more long term potential with a higher offensive ceiling. Instead people just want to give me package deals for a downgrade on bozak and a couple good prospects who are 2-3 years away from even doing anything. Fuck that. It's not what I want.

3) I am one of the LAST Gm's who would trade away ANY of my young talent for these washed up Vets you speak of. If this was the case I would have moved guys like Eric Gustafsson, Scheifele, Bernier or Burmistrov, Matt Martin, Sobotka, McBain etc. for 30+ year old scrubs.

How's your team doing?

Oh wait...do you even have a team anymore? You know, after you had your little hissy fit and quit like a girl.

As for me not shopping my players. I'm OK with what I have. Thanks for thinking about me though.

Yea, it's kind of hilarious that a tanking team is still somehow tied with you in the standings. hyuk hyuk hyuk. Try again.

Your team, well, your ex-team, is in a much easier conference, with a much easier schedule.

I'm a big fan of each GM running his team and he see's fit. I'd compare NYR Kyle to Hong. Hong took the long road but look at him now! Kyle has some nice young pieces, nothing wrong with him not making deals just for the sake of trading.

Shouldn't you be included in the delusional, since you always say your downgrading but then if every downgrade trade you want for example Franzen or Lupul. Here is my thing, clearly most of the teams at the top are still there because of some of the dumb asses you had at the beginning, but fantasy hockey is not fun while you keep young players not in the NHL. As far as trading for old guys, I know I havent done that otherwise the 15 million times you tried to give me Hejduk I would have taken him. I will admit i trade away prospects because in my opinion they are boring as shit. In the U.S. we dont get as in depth of hockey coverage with prospects and such as you guys do. Take for example the World Juniors when they were in here Buffalo, want to know how many of those games were on TV locally........ wait for it........... 0. So my point is should I sit there and wait for random OHL, WHL or whatever HL minor league they are in or should I trade for guys I know about. If I don't win it all, that is fine but if I make the playoffs and put that scare in to someone that is cool. I did last year against NJ and I hope to scare someone else again even if it means a 1st round exit. I didn't have the assets to get to the top to start but what is the point of dropping lower.
