Rogers + Bell to buy MLSE

Rogers Communications Inc. and BCE Inc. are on the verge of a deal to purchase a majority stake in Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment for more than $1.3-billion in a deal that could be announced in a matter of days.
...
Sources say the telecommunications giants have reached a draft agreement with the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan to acquire about 80 per cent of MLSE, which owns the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors and a host of other assets.
...
In particular, Rogers and BCE have won the support of minority owner Larry Tanenbaum, who owns 20 per cent of MLSE and has right of first refusal on any offer. His support clears a major hurdle for any deal.

Both companies are such jokes. Collusion is pretty obvious when they have identical prices for identical products. Wow.

I still can't believe this.. holy fuck.. Death of HNIC or the leafs on it at least? I'd imagine TSN and sportsnet would split the games between themselves, I don't like the idea of that much debt being used to buy the team.. Whats it mean for the raptors budget? how the hell can those two companies work together?..
I don't trust either of them to run my cell phone plan..
Best joke so far.
Bell and Rogers releasing new Leafs phone package. They say it's amazing but comes with terrible contracts+coverage in all zones.

It would definitely mean the death (or at least re-purposing) of LeafsTV.
Would love seeing more Leafs on TSN, but I despise the Sportsnet/LeafsTV broadcasts.

CBC>Tsn.. both pretty close actually.. then >>>>>>sportsnet>>>>leafs tv.
Don't like either of them, Leafs TV is particularly bad though. I've been able to watch MSG now that I'm in NYC and their production quality, announcers and even program quality blows Leafs TV outta the water.

Win-win for me, Raptors budget can only go up, and I hate Leafs TV and HNIC broadcasts, more SPNET/TSN games is alright in my books.

Also you can't tell me the Leafs, and especially Raptors won't be more aggressive under new ownership. Rogers and Bell have direct interests in playoff games, both for the revenue they bring in terms of tickets sold, and concessions purchased, but also because of the TV revenue they drive during the post season. This can only benefit Toronto based franchises, IMO.

My joke was that it's going to be terribly confusing for the lone Phoenix fan who makes a pilgrimage to the Centre of the Hockey Universe and finds out there are two Rogers Centres.
