He's a class act. Always loved him as a coach in Toronto. Shame we had a shit team under him.

He was just awful. I hated him for his so-called man-to-man system. Leafs weren't quick enough for it and he continued to use it. Screw him.

Jason Allison was a fantastic skater. He was the Yul Brenner of our generation.

Paul Maurice wasn't a bad coach by any stretch of the imagination, he lead a weak Canes team deep into the post season on two separate occasions, but his strengths are clearly as a motivator, and teacher, and not with systems. Much like Kirk actually.

Like I said, a likeable person with no coaching ability. Derp.

Assistant coaches for systems. Head coach for someone to answer to, + sone motivation, and GM for code of conduct/honesty.

That's bullshit. A coach has the final say on what system they will use. He's the one who employs it, structures it, adjusts it. To say otherwise is just you being intentionally facetious (or at worst, ignorant).

The big difference between Maurice and Muller will be the fact that Muller knows how to play and win this game.. Maurice, not so much..

lol so mad
You took Nick's statement a bit too raw imo. He is merely stating the way the coaching structure is usually handled in every day life. There aren't going to be that many days in which a head coach needs to stick his nose up in what the AC is working on with the team although he is on site. Of course the HC has the final say, but it's much like the highschool principal/vice-principal system... the VP enforces, and suspends punks and runs the system, not the principal (USUALLY)

Don't put words in my mouth Paul!!!
LOL. Of course final say is gm's. He chooses the coach , for example Burke demands a high paced forechecking system - gave Wilson a fast team this year which limited his options.
But what I was trying to say - delegation is crucial. Micro managing will kill a team, and IMO the primary purpose of the head coach is building the team - GM obv builds the organizational culture and finds bodies that work together. But judging a coach without any clue of the relationships and details is fairly closed-minded.
