I'm so glad you decided to stay, Neel. But uhhh, I might just go browse some porn after watching this. Just don't tell Scott I'm doing that while he's talking trade with me on MSN.

Ugh. Brutal Halloween trip down to Victoria, roughly a 2h45min drive under normal diving conditions. The malahat mt is just before Victoria, and there was a bad accident on the pass literally just in front of us around 4pm. Gather it was 3 cars and a motorcycle, resulting in a fatality. Terrible.

The result to my group (less impact then those directly impacted) was road closed until ~11pm. Missed the pub crawl which we had tickets for, and had to wait in line until I contacted a friend that could help us skip the line. Got into a good bar around 1:30am, 20 minutes later a friend of mine is acting up, gets kicked out... join him for 2am....wonder around for a bit, grab McDick's and head back to the place we are crashing...find that someone went mirror punching down the street, including my car. Guess the first real scratch should be a good one? Sweet.

Wake up hung over. Drive home just in time to watch the Leafs lose.

Nick, you're never allowed to come to any parties I host.

Feelings = crushed.

But, ignoring the sarcasm and obvious point that we don't know each other, what's the primary reason I'm un-invited?

Mostly because you think Gustavsson's a good/decent goaltender. I can understand the confusion, he was wearing a mask on Hallow's Eve after all.

Ha, I've seen the stories you spin on twitter; I think it's way to early to write him off, and stand by my opinion that evaluating any player, especially a goalie, during a sophomore season is a mistake. Add in BOTH parents passing on, nagging heart issue, media in toronto and un-expected weight due to Giggy's play and you have a player who wasn't given a fair shot. Perhaps his confidence is too shaken to ever recover, but his skill is apparent when I watch.

Hiller easily takes the best mask award.

I second that the Monster's been hearing it WAY too much from leaf fans over the last little while. He's played well. That goal today was a bad break which Leaf fans will cling onto as evidence that he sucks. But it really isn't true. He's no Reimer. But he's played well.

Jonas Gustavsson is a below average goaltender, and he should be hearing it from the fans. We have better options internally, IMO.

Nick's above example is a small sample size, and does not count Reimers best start, or Jonas worst start. Over this season, Reimer has been league average, Jonas has been well below it, over their careers Reimer has been above average, and Jonas well below. Until Jonas Guatavsson learns to control his rebounds, and not overplay the puck, he will continue to be deplorable, IMHO.

I would agree that Gus is a below average Starting Goalie. But there is NO WAY he is a below average Backup.

Gus is a fag. Worst jersey I have ever bought. Really regret buying it now

I'd wager he is an average starting backup, which is fine when Reimer is healthy, but with Reims out of the lineup I'd rather see what Scrivens can do personally.

Up until his recent shutout Scrivens was hardly lighting up the AHL himself. Gus recently has been trying to get his confidence and stride back he hadn't played in months. Aside from his recent struggles which to be honest are mostly just due to him not playing, hes put together some above average performances in the past. Leaf fans just have a short ass memory.

Small sample size Neel, he was phenomenal in pre-season, and the AHL in 33 games last year, but more importantly plays a sound positional game with strong rebound control, that alone will go a long ways to improve this club, IMO. Your second comment is just wrong, Gus career save % is below .900, his best ever season was .902%, by no stretch of the imagination is that "above average." And frankly there is no excuse for putting up a sub .900 in the NHL, goalies that do consistently (as Gus has) don't last long.
