Six Teams Interested in Tomas Kaberle

Burke was on the Fan 590 this morning, and had the following to say about the Kaberle situation,
What do you need to improve?

Satisfied in goal and satisfied on blueline. But fans are asking about Kaberle.

July 1st will be their draft, but quality of players available has dropped due to players re-signing. The Cap situation hasn't panned out yet, which may create more opportunities. There are still some good UFAs available.

Asked about starting a bidding war for Kaberle: he's had 2 enquiries about Kaberle which included package offers. They aren't looking to trade him, but they will listen to offers. (Same old...) Good guy, good player, good price, and wants to stay.

If Kaberle moved, would you still be happy with the blueline? "That depends".

They want to leave Mikus, Aulie, Gysbers and Holzer in AHL to grow together.
I wonder what the two teams are, and more importantly what is being offered? Prospects and picks, a veteran player who can step in, or a youngster who is on teh cusp of cracking an NHL roster?

Haha yeah Kareem, I honestly thought I was coming here because teams were asking permission to talk to Burke to come be the GM of their team.

But yes, already 2 offers for Kaberle is interesting. I would like to know what's being offered, or at least like you said, what type of package. Be it a pick + prospect, or roster player + pick, etc.

Two teams could be Boston and New Jersey, Columbus may be in the mix too?
I'm excited, though Burke keeps adding we'll likely keep him to the end of all these answers. I'm hoping thats just a tactic.

In an interview today, Burke stated that Kaberle is the leafs best bet to obtain a top 6 forward, so I suppose we rule out picks or prospects in return.

A lot of our return hinges on whether Kaberle wants to sign a longer term deal with his new team if he does get traded.

The Toronto Maple Leafs recently sent an email to NHL teams acknowledging defenceman Tomas Kaberle is available.

The email outlined Kaberle's contract status and reminded general managers that Kaberle's no-trade clause will lift at the upcoming NHL Entry Draft and will return in August.

The email sparked interest, with as many as five teams currently inquiring about the Leafs asking price; two of the teams are said to be keenly interested.

Toronto is seeking either a first-round draft pick, or a young player capable of immediately stepping into the Maple Leafs' lineup.

The Leafs would like to acquire a first-round pick to jump into this year's draft mix, but Leafs management says such a move isn't a priority.

At the moment, sources say there are no firm offers and no team has been given clearance to speak to Kaberle's agent Rick Curran about a contract extension.

There is no urgency to move Kaberle, who has one year remaining on his contract, and extending his deal is also considered an option as the veteran defenceman has made it clear he wants to stay in Toronto.

However, there will be no extension discussions before the Leafs get a good read on what teams are willing to give up in trade for Kaberle in the coming weeks.

I've been doing some thinking lately, trying to guess where Kaberle might go, and what return we may garner in a potential draft day deal, I composed the following list of suitors and returns based on the need for a puck mover, as well as the ideal return for the leafs, winger who can score goals, preferably with size.

St. Louis - David Backes, Brad Boyes
Dallas - Brenden Morrow, Loui Eriksson
Buffalo - Zack Kassian, Drew Stafford
Pittsburgh - Eric Tangradi, Chris Kunitz
New Jersey - David Clarkson
Boston - Blake Wheeler, Michael Ryder
Tampa Bay - Steve Downie
Washington - Brooks Laich, Eric Fehr, Tomas Fleischmann
Columbus - Jakub Voracek, RJ Umberger
Vancouver - Alex Burrows, Steve Bernier
Edmonton - Dustin Penner, Ales Hemsky (pending UFA)

They are more likely to deal a Morrow, Ribeiro or Richards because of their respective cap hits IMO, I would be open to either of the three, TBH, but I know Burke is targeting a winger, so I'm personally holding out hope for Morrow.
