This might be a dumb question (re: UFAs)

With cutdown day on Tuesday, we can't have more than 50 contracted players out of 67 possible players. Do UFAs count as contracted players or are exempt until they sign an actual contract? I assume guys with contracts would be considered contract players while unsigned prospects and UFAs/RFAs (guys without contracts) would fall under another category. I probably know the answer to this already but I'm just making sure.

seems obvious that players without a NHL contract (UFAs,...) do not count towards the limit for contracted players
