Meh - anyone else see the irony that nyr buys out former dream free agent centre chris drury because his contract was too big/long, and then sign brad Richards to a 9 year 60million dollar deal.


It's too big for the length IMO. Times like this I'm thankful Burke doesnt get caught up in the rush of free agency. Happy to have my GM doing a public service, can say whatever you want, but his priorities are without reproach.

Everyone knew drury's contract was bad at the time though. Also Drury never was and was never considered to be the player Brad Richards is.

fair enough. I just know personally I'd be jumping for joy if my team landed richards for this type of contract.

facey is bang on here. i was pissed off Richards did not sign with us, but I would NEVER want burke to give him a 9 year contract. its absolutely ridiculous and short sighted. I'm hoping Burke makes a move for Stastny. IMO that is a far better fit and I like Stastny more than Richards.

Injury risk, but I really like the Connolly signing. Tim is really skilled, and typically right around PPG, not over-paid and term is spot on. Burke inherited a rough situation, but I really like how he's righting the ship.

me too. its the right move. and the contract is only for two years meaning burke could trade him next year if it doesnt work out. connolly can be very good as long as he is healthy. here's hoping he stays that way:

Really? You think he retires @ 35/36? Minimal injury history, signs of increased play not declining, and despite being front-loaded there is still real money on the table.


edit: early contract info i had was off, he'll retire when it suits him, 3M final 3 years... how is that not questionable after the Kovy deal????

im actually really excited about the connolly signing the more i think about it.
