No one can believe someone without a prospect went on choosing first overall this year... (well still a few days before the draft...)

RNH's offensive potential is high, but his BBKL upside is limited.

gimme karlsson + couturier/strome/zibanejad over RNH anyday

Nice Bill.

Seeing this kinda makes me wish I held onto it.. but I wouldn't be where I am without that trade.

I told Bill, it was a no-brainer for him.

But you guys are exaggerating how much he won by. 1st Overalls are worth every inch of the overpayment.

P.S. yes Lee. This is why everyone told you that you made a mistake.

Not this year. I don't care if one scout said RNH has the best sense since Gretzky. He is not an impact or a franchise player. Strome could easily be better than him, and along with Karlsson I think Bill could make out like a bandit on this one.

Given what I know now, I'd still do that trade ;)

I don't know why people keep talking about Strome + Karlsson being sent Bill's way lol. I own 6th Overall. Strome is not getting by me. This deal is essentially Karlsson + Zibanejad/Murphy/Hamilton for RNH.

And I know everyone in this league loves to play NHL Scout. But if we look at statistics alone/historical drafts where a Center is taken #1 overall especially, If RNH becomes everything he can be as Taylor Hall's Center, I'll make this trade 10 times over , <--- and there is a HIGH likelyhood of this.He has all the tools to be a perfect fit.

It's also known that while RNH has the highest upside, he also has the highest bust potential.

Once I get home I'll find a great post about the WHL scoring. There were so many examples listed that were showing how more often than not, high scorers from the WHL don't carry their scoring to the next level, including 1st overall picks.

I am a big RNH fan, I'm just saying that Karlsson + 8th overall is a lot (or whatever pick Atlanta is).

Also, Strome won't get to 6th if the top 3 goes as I think it will.

Shep, I agree with you that Karlsson + 7th Overall is a win. But it is being way exaggerated here.

As far as your analysis of RNH is concerned, let's talk in a year when he centers Taylor Hall on one of the best young teams in the NHL. Even if he becomes the Oiler's #1 Center 50% of the time, I make this deal. #1 Centers are very tough to come by.

If you like what you got, that's fine but yes, there's a reason why you could've hung onto that pick until closer to draft time. You never got out of last place after you made the trade so it's not like you improved in the standings by making the move when you made it. You could made the trade after the season when we all knew you'd get the #1 pick and you could've cleaned up. Your team has improved quite a bit but it's not like you couldn't have waited until this week to make the trade and you could've had the rest of the summer to build your team heading into the new season. You'll find out how long of an offseason this really is and there are months to make moves and a lot can change in this league over that time. In my eyes, you had very little reason to rush into that deal but again, if you're happy with what you got at the time...more power to you.

Again, you could've had all summer to make the moves you made up to this point and you could've had an even better team. Bottom line, you are happy with your team and you are better going forward. I just think the majority of us if we were in your shoes would've waited. You'll be amazed how long this offseason truly is and a lot happens to shift the balance of power. You have from June to September to go from a doormat to a playoff team. You improved a lot in a short amount of time but you held onto the #1 pick and unloaded earlier than most would. I trade my 1st round pick early but that was also when I was a middle of the road team and at the time, the pick was going to be in the middle third. If I held my pick now, I would've waited until now to do something with it.

I concur, I'm not sure I would go so far as to say that, "Strome could easily be better than him (RNH)", but I agree with the general premise. Ryan Nugent Hopkins is not a consensus first in most drafts, perhaps not even top 2.

Onto the topic of the trade, I like it for both parties. Shiv obviously got the player he wants, which is worth the overpayment alone, and Bill got a very nice young defenceman along with an additional pick in the top 10.

How did your team go from middle of the road to probably dead last next year? You keep telling me what I should have done, yet my team keeps improving while yours stays the same...I'm not trying to start something Shoalize but to be honest, I'm not turning to you for advice.
