Tips From the Champ - Building a BBKL Winner: Tip #1

Now, these may be a little controversial and some might not agree but I don't care. My 2 BBKL championships will block my vision (yes, stolen from Patrick Roy.. kinda ). I'm going to give tips on how to build a winner in this league to hopefully help some of you guys. These tips I will fully endorse and actual strategies I use myself. Use them if you'd like to and feel free to ask me on msn to clarify anything you do not understand.
Tip #1: Trade, trade, trade, trade, and trade
Sitting dormant will get you no where. If you have assets to use such as picks & prospects to immediately improve your BBKL scoring team.. do it. With the way players move around this league it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to sit on these assets and "rebuild". The goal is to win, isn't it? With that being said, obviously getting these NHLers, you want to get them as cheaply as possible, but if you need to add another depth piece or upgrade a pick or prospect, why the fuck wouldn't you? When you acquire a guaranteed quality NHL asset and you're trying to challenge for the BBKL title, there's almost no such thing as overpaying when only moving picks/prospects/depth pieces!! Anyway, if you are active on the trade front, you have a chance to win every single year. Now, you guys might say "well, Kyle has a great team and he hardly ever trades". Ok, sure, but he doesn't have any assets in the cupboard to move to improve either. Therefore he'll be hard pressed to win. If he was man enough to move a few of his stars/quality pieces for multiple assets to improve later on then he could quickly build a winner and sustain his winning ways for much longer. Sorry to pick on you Kyle but that's just how I see it.
Some great examples of what I mean is when I traded for Corey Perry back, or Jonathan Toews, or when Mike traded for Mike Green this off season. A lot of people think he overpaid but he landed arguably the best fantasy defenseman when healthy for a 34 year old Dmen in Corvo and futures. He also landed Ryan O'Reilly who looks to be a stud in he making too. Another obvious choice is when Kareem picked up Duncan Keith for 3 power forward prospects. There are many examples of smart moves like this. If you need more example, scale my trading history .
There is another reason I believe Kyle wil be hard pressed to win and I'll get in to that in the next installment of Tips from the Champ. Anyway, in closing, overpaying is a matter of opinion. If you have quality NHLers, you always have assets, remember that .
Until next time.. good luck
