Clutterbuck's hit was brutal as well, it's too bad he is escaping this scotch free.
I also think the "tossing him out of the NHL" comments are harsh and unjustified. This is only his second offense, granted it is in as many games, but still.

17 points in the last 15 years of hockey and over 2000 PIM. He taunted Tangradi as he got medical treatment, and this is his first game back from suspension and he goes head hunting with no puck around? This guy doesn't get it, hes disgraceful. Say what you want about Cooke but he can at least play hockey. He shouldn't get tossed out of the NHL, but he simply doesn't deserve to be here.

Trevor Gillies never went head hunting, there was a cheap shot to his team mate so he went in to defend him, the act was not pre-meditated. Secondly, you have no idea if the guy can play or not, you are basing his career off of Hockey DB stats, and a two game sample I'm willing to bet you haven't seen outside of clips of the hit. By no means am I suggesting that Gillies is a regulaur on most NHL teams, but he can play the game well enough to serve as an enforcer on the New York Islanders.

He contributes nothing outside his ability to "enforce". That era is dead in the NHL, "enforcers" must contribute something else to their NHL teams or they shouldn't be playing. He sees around 6-7 minutes a night, he should not be a regular in the NHL on any team. He came back from a 9 game suspension, and hit a player in the head in retaliation away from the puck. He hit an injured player, then taunted him as he left the ice. He shouldn't be in NHL on the basis of his skills or the role he serves, its outdated and frankly its becoming embarrassing to the sport. His style of play went the way of the two line pass rule, the rover, and clutch and grab defense. Want to see a proper way to handle things? Konopoka decked Clutterbuck after in defense to a hit clutterbuck threw against his teammate. Thats how you do it, not with the crap Gillies has done in his brief time in the NHL. If fan beater Mike Milbury is calling you out, something is wrong.

That's like saying a defensive defenceman contributes nothing outside of his ability to defend...Trevor Gillies is in the NHL for his ability to fight, that is not a point of contention, it goes without saying, and holds true for a majority of enforcers in the NHL. It is also true that most enforcers play 6-7 minutes (or less) a night, so that is hardly a knock on Gillies. Whether or not he can play the game well enough is not for either you or me to discuss, seeing as how neither of us have watched him play prior to and including his time in the NHL. All we have to defer to is hockeydb, which as you know is meaningless as an isolated resource.
As for the hit itself, it was in the heat of the moment, which runs contrary to your argument that Gillies went head hunting. It's difficult to judge anyone under those circumstances, it was a react first think second play.

Should've gotten the rest of the year imo but 10 games is quite a lot still. What a chump.

For the record, that wasn't an elbow at all. His right elbow is at Clutterbuck's bicep. His left fist punches him in the face for the hit. Without the punch, it's a clean hit. Maybe boarding.
The NHL is full of pussies.

i honestly dont think it was that bad, it warrants maybe a 2-3 game suspension at max... he got 10 because he just came back from a suspension and hes on the radar of colin campbell and whoever else is watching him specifically

I thought clutterbucks hit was a little bit worse. I thought he also embellished the hit he took from Gillies a little bit as well.
I am still searching for the elbow that he threw to clutterbucks head. Ive yet to find it.

Don Cherry agreed with me.
And the more I look at that hit, the more I wonder how even a suspension was handed out, let alone a 10 game one. How is it Gillies fault a shoulder to shoulder hit makes Clutterbuck's head smack off the glass?

kinda my thought too dude... the Buttercup hit was the dirtier of the 2, and he's off Scott-free...
Gillies literally came in shoulder on shoulder... but w/e... NHL hates on NYI consistently...
