You have to love this deal moving forward for the Blues...another young horse up front plus a quality young defenseman. Johnson hasn't been a complete bust but he's not been the best defenseman on that team this year. Pietrangelo has really emerged this year in his first full season in the league and now you pair him without breakout young stud like Shattenkirk. It's not like there are any expiring deals in this...all 4 players involved are signed through next year at the very least. The Avs could do quite well if Johnson turns things around and that 1st rounder ends up being another young stud for their stable.

EJ = best player in the deal, hard to call rape from that standpoint.

No, the best player in the deal as of today is unquestionably Chris Stewart, but the Avs are hoping EJ can be the guy he was billed to be in 06, and I wouldn't bet against him, but I'm not a fan of any deal that requires X to reach his ceiling for it to be an even hockey deal, and that is exactly what the Avs are banking on. Whereas with Stew and Shattenkirk you know what you are getting, a #1 RW with ppg upside, and PF abilities, and a future pp QB.

I wouldn't have had the balls to pull this one off personally.

I call this rape for STL.

Stewart is unreal and Shattenkirk has stepped right into the NHL. With the 1st being top 10 protected this year and a healthy Blues roster next year, this is a great trade for St. Louis.

I personally dont understand the need for Colorado to make this deal. it seems so unnecessary.
