Considering you went off the board and chose someone who has never played in the NHL - shouldn't the thread be titled best "hockey" starting line-up and not "NHL" ?

Surely you don't intend to argue an unproven NHL commodity deserves to be on your NHL all-time roster - no matter how amazing he was at playing hockey 15 years before you were born.

I don't intend to argue anything, it's a typo.

Nope, he's too much of a stud to make that team.

Personally, I like Bossy better then Howe. Bossy's GPG is unreal, .762 for the best in NHL history.. it's too bad his career was cut short much like Bobby Orr's.

Lemieux - Gretzky - Bossy

Orr - Bourque

Roy

^Howe played till he was 50...Your ppg in general are going to drop after that long.

Also, I'm surprised there isn't more love for Kharlamov, he is widely regarded as the best Russian born player ever, and many, including those on the Canadian team remarked that he was as good, if not better than anyone else during the years leading up to an following the 72 summit series.

Howe never scored at a Bossy clip. Mike Bossy is the best goal scorer to ever live, period.

As for Kharlamov.. I think of Sergei Priakin when he came over.. the NHL ate him up and spit him out.

Wayne is the best goal scorer ever, the fact that it wasn't a strong point of his game just highlights exactly how dominant the rest of his game was. Howe was a staple of the game, the two of them + Orr are locks for the best ever team.

Dominik Hasek:

2 Hart Trophies (3 other nominations)
6 Vezina Trophies
1st place – Highest career save percent (.922)

In 1997, he became the first goaltender to win the Lester B. Pearson Award for most outstanding player in the league. He is also the only goaltender to win the Hart Trophy twice for most valuable player, which is only one Vezina Trophy away from tying Jacques Plante's record of seven.

While with the Red Wings in 2002, Hasek became the first European starting goaltender to win the Stanley Cup. In the process, he set a record for shutouts in a postseason year.

The Buffalo Sabres teams that Hasek played for were primarily awful and he would carry them through the entire season.

In your opinion, maybe. Gordie was a great player, he did a lot things well.

As for Wayne, most goals ever, absolutely.. best goal scorer ever.. I don't think so. I'd even argue Mario was better then Wayne and maybe the best ever. With the development of the NHL goaltender taken into consideration making it even more likely. If you watch a lot of Gretzky's goals, most were cutting through the offensive zone and letting a wrist shot go.. and because goaltending was brutal, Wayne would score. I'd be bold enough to say that 15-25% of goals scored in that era would be easy saves today.. or for argument sake, the early to mid 90's.

But whatever, you are entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine. Best goal scorers ever in order imo are: Lemieux, Bossy, Gretzky. Gordie Howe's not even in the top 30 probably. Great player though.
