Merry WJC!

Merry World Juniors & Christmas everyone! (getting priorities straight of course).
Not the real thing yet with Russia still missing, but much closer to it than the August tournament.
What should help having a decent tournament is that Slovakia and Czech R bring on paper their best teams in years.
So let's go with the list of your players attending this year's WJC.
Here are mine (barring unexpected late cuts):
FINLAND: Heimosalmi, Ronni, Kaskimaki, Salin
GERMANY: Oswald, Lutz
SWEDEN: Ostlund, Elias Pettersson
USA: Luke Hughes
Not as many as in the past with Russia not there, also had to cut Canonica at roster submission who should play a good role for Switzerland.
Will be cheering for Ostlund in particular but I don't think Sweden has the D corp (missing some guys too) and G to go all the way.
Finland's team less good than usual I think, so it should be between Canada and US for gold.

Czechia: Tomas Hamara
Slovakia: Adam Sykora
Lower turnout for me than usual.
Would've had a couple of Russians, I think.

Gauthier and McGroarty for Team USA. Gauthier will stick with his familiar linemates...Cooley and Snuggerud. McGroarty will probably be on the 2nd line.
They definitely took guys that filled roles and didn't pick the 12 best offensive forwards. They cut Will Smith. Their defense is on the small side...that's probably my main concern with them heading into the tournament. Luke Hughes has to be a beast for them.

The Wings are a bit light with not having Kasper represent the Swiss and Edvinsson is staying with the Griffins.

Pretty sure Kasper was not eligible to play for the Swiss
Anyways, disappointing to see these two players not attending and probably the fact they both belong to the Red Wings is not a coincidence

Hanelt out for Germany with a foot injury.
Also doesn't look like Alscher is going to make the team for the Czechs, so that would leave our Matthew without any player in this tournament. Let's keep him in our thoughts here

I have a few. Sucks that Hanelt is out, but Kemell, Zellweger, Odelius, Hutson, Bankier, Pajer.

Why was I thinking he's Swiss? Throws me off more that he plays pro in Sweden. Either way, he wasn't playing which is a bummer.
I'm trying to convince myself this isn't going to just be a foregone conclusion that Canada wins this. That's a tremendous roster of skaters.
The Americans, Finns, Swedes and Czechs should have a decent shot at a medal. Canada getting gold is probably the safest bet but that's why they play the games.

I hope the coach gets the showboating under control, otherwise it's going to be a much earlier exit than Canada is used to.
